Carmelita, I think the LDS just put that because nothing was listed. And sometimes I think they also put "other" if they couldn't read what it said? 1. BURRELL P.2 KEMP (HENRY1) was born Abt. 1771 in North Carolina/Virginia, and died September 01, 1827 in Wilson County, Tennessee. I would also like to state that I believe Burrell's death date may be wrong. I don't have a copy of his will or probate. But the reference I have to it is that his will was written on May 10, 1827 and that it was entered into probate in Wilson County Court in the June Term 1827. So if this reference is correct then he had to have died between May 10 1827 and whenever the court met in June 1827. Not in September of 1827. I can't see them probating his will before he died! But like I said I don't have an actual copy of this record so I'm not positive the dates I have of his will and probate are correct. Mary K.
Melba, I don't know anything about this James Moss but I think the one you found would also be two young. They may be together in 1900 census maybe Macon Co. but I don't have that info. I tried to answer all your questions if I missed any let me know. Mary K. So, Mary you can see my confusion too when I saw those dates for Nannie matched those of Martha. It is the same in the book as is online. So far, only James Moss I have come up with is James Robert Moss 15 Apr 1882 - 11 Mar 1947 H/O Mattie Moss (no dates) pg 291 Macon Co. II, buried in the Shrum Cemetery/Alvis Graveyard. And with the dates as they are do not think it is the same James Moss we are looking for. No Melba, I don't know any more about Arthur Dewey, maybe Bill Kemp does, this is his line. Rufus Jefferson being his grandfather. I may start a controversy over this one. But Gary Pace, Bill Kemp & Judith Holley and I, maybe others do "not" believe Burrell Kemp that married Elizabeth (we believe her last name was Rowland) Rowling was son of Burrell Kemp & Nancy Foster as has been reported by others including info in the History of Smith Co. book. We've worked on this together for a while now. Many people have listed him (including me) as Burrell Kemp, Jr. but no where have any of us been able to find him listed in any offical records as Burrell Kemp "Jr". He is we believe the son of Murphy Kemp & Sarah that is listed in the Goodner book records as Burrell Kemp b. 4-7-1794. This is who we believe married Elizabeth Rowland, not Rowling or Romling as some have it. Judith has a copy of the marriage license and although difficult to read we believe her name was Rowland. (I've also see various spellings for Rowland). So on this I guess everyone will have to decide for themselves which is correct? So her is what I have for Murphy's children. I will send what I have for Burrell & Nancy Kemp seperate. Descendants of Burrell Kemp Generation No. 1 1. Correct me if I'm wrong (all you folks that live in that areat) but I think the early Brockett's lived close to Witcher (now Gibbs) Crossroads. If you go west from the crossroads, the GIBBS cemetery is on the right, the YOUNG cemetery is on the left, and I know there is another cemtery on the left and right of that road. I believe one of them is the Brockett Cemetery. Carmelita

Most of the time I see her listed as Dora Ann Goad Sloan but in 1910 Macon Co. Census she is listed as Isadora Ann. Info from David R. Vargas on Ira's obit states he was buried in the Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown. I don't believe Milltown is the same as Red Boiling Springs? Milltown is or was a community. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that? Macon Co., Times, April 2, 1944 Ira Jason Sloan, age 75 years, died at his home near Red Boiling Springs at about five-thirty o'clock Sunday morning after several months of poor health. Death was attributed to a pulmonary disorder. His wife, Mrs. Dora Ann Goad Sloan, preceded her husband in death about ten years ago. He is survived by three sons, Fred Sloan, of Red Boiling Springs; Cordell of Difficult; and Pvt. John Edward Sloan, now in a hospital at Martinsburg, W. Va.; three daughters, Mrs. J. W. Green, of Madison; Mrs. Houston Newberry, of Old Hickory; and Mrs. Tom Halliburton, who resided with her father; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial was made Monday about 11 o'clock in the Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown, following funeral services in charge of Elder E. M. McDonald. The deceased was a professed Christian, although he was not identified with any church. He was the son of John Milton and Nancy Parkhurst Sloan and was born and reared in the Pleasant Shade section. However, he had resided in this county for more than half a century. He was a good man, loved and honored for his honesty, good character and sterling worth. I have been unable to find Nancy B. info so far and wonder if she died as a child. I did not locate her on the 1880 census but still checking. I don't have Isadora (Dora's) burial place but I guess it would also be Jenkins Cemetery at Milltown, Macon Co. TN? Mary K.

Melba, We have updated the Brockett Cemetery. It is in Macon County with a Pleasant Shade address. John's birthdate is 23 Jan 1834, I read Naney Sloan instead of Nancy. Also the Russell Cemetery, but the info from a family member states A W Sloan is the D/O Johnny R & Mary A "Polly" Russell and death date is 24 Dec 1940 on stone. The Nannie Moss death date is 13 Sep 1905. Teresa Teresa, did you mean A. W. Sloan's "wife" is daughter of Johnny R. & Mary A. "Polly" Russell. Archibald W. Sloan's wife was Pauline Pontes "Puss" Russell daughter of John Robert Russell & Mary Ann "Polly" Shoulders. 1910 Macon Co. census Sloan Archie W. 54 mar 23y Sloan, Puss wife 47 mar 23ys no children Russell, Mary A. 75 wid MnL wd 9ch 4liv Mary Knight

Hi List, Reading the info on James R.[Riley] and his wife. Her naame was Ellender D. Sloan dau. of John Milton Sloan and Nancy Parkhurst. Hope this helps. Vi Vi do you have a good source for her name? In 1860 census she's listed as Ellander 1yr, 1870 she's listed as Ellen D. 11 yrs, 1880 she's listed as Ella D. 20 yrs. Her marriage record says Ella D. Sloan http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/marriages/marraigesroll88-89b.htm And 1900 census says Eldora Kemp http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tn/smith/census/1900/095-01a.gif And her death certificate says Elnora Kemp. Cemetery records online has E. O. Kemp b. Feb. 16, 1860 d. August 22, 1942 Her Death certificate has b. Feb. 16, 1860, d. Aug. 22 (or 23?), 1942, burial Aug. 23, 1942, And I will check with him but I believe Bill Kemp gave me her name as Eldora? This is his great-grandmother. What say you Bill? Mary Knight
Thanks Mary....I had always thought Brockette in Smith Co. and then when I began the search in the Macon Co. Just a side note, John's (my husband) father always told us he was born in Red Boiling Springs But his birth certificate gives RR Pleasant Shade as place of residence of his Parents at the time of his birth. He was Delivered by Dr. John J. Beasley of Pleasant Shade, Smith County, TN. My guess would be if a family lived in the rural area around Pleasant Shade, they may have been born in Macon Co. or Smith Co.?
