    1. Alcorn
    2. Peggy Coleman
    3. Robert J. (John) Alcorn, son of Nancy Lewis and Richard Alson Alcorn married Annie Frances Gragg. He was born 8 February 1873 and died 10/12 February 1947. In the Dickens Cemetery records he is buried beside Mary C. Alcorn who was born 1 June 1882 and died 3 June 1946. Does anyone know her maiden name and when he married either one of them?

    3. Peggy, I also have Family Tree Maker, try to keep it and paperwork data together. I use three ring binders and list each family in one (have up to 3 on some families) for the paperwork. Once in awhile I try to check one against the other. 3. Peggy, I had the same problem with my Great grand Father Absalom Reems Harvill (Harvel , Harvell, Harville). He end up in Cumberland County TN, but never knew where he came from. He was born in 1849 The 1850 census had him listed as Reems HARVELL The 1860 Census had him listed as Alfred G Harvill The 1870 Census listed him as Absalom Harvel Absolom R. Harvel married Podemanda (Amanda) Smith Aug 10, 1871 in Smith County. Most people have Alfred as being dead before 1860. BTW I have seen spellings for Harvill as HARVEL, HARVELL, HARVIL , HARVILL, HARVILLE and sometimes HARREL or HARWELL Thanks Jerry Harvill -----Original Message----- From: Linda Lewis [mailto:llewis001@centurytel.net] Sent: Thursday, October 27, 2005 5:06 PM To: TNSMITH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNSMITH] Harwell and messed up spellings I know that, I just haven't seen Lucinda before in my tree. My grandfather was named Aldra. There was a man here in Nashville about 20 years ago who specialized in telling people who odd names meant. Aldra means first. Wish he was available to do that now. I am going to have to forget everything else and find a way to put all of my genealogy sheets in some kind of order so I can find them. Any suggestions as to how to do this? 1. Vada Sutton Retires
    2. Charles Gregory
    3. I want to add to whats written below Vadda spent months helping get data online for the website but she took no credit and when you look around the website remember Vada might have done that! Vada if you are still on the list .... Good Luck and if you ever get bored Just yell i got lots of things to do<g>! Charlie =============== An era unlikely to ever be repeated ended today, September 30, 2005, with the retirement of Bell County Clerk Vada Sutton. For over 52 years, Ms. Sutton reported to work at Bell County. For the past 18 years she has been County Clerk. But her history began in February of 1953, when as an 18 year old graduate of Salado High School, she started as secretary in the District Attorney's office. In 1960, she moved on to the County Judge's office where she stayed for four years before coming the Court Reporter for the District Court (there was only one then) for two years. In 1966, she began a 21-year tenure as Administrative Assistant to the Bell County Judge. Then on January 1, 1987, she took office as County Clerk, where she served until her retirement today. "Vada Sutton is a legend in Bell County and throughout Texas, and deservedly so," said Bell County Judge Jon Burrows. "She had dedicated her life as a public servant to the citizens of Bell County and has set the standard on what public services means. I am joined by the 900 current Bell County Employees and Elected Officials and hundreds of former employees and officials in thanking Vada for her service, her guidance, her wisdom, and her inspiration to us all. From elections, to redistricting, to records management, to historical preservation, the list goes on and on, she has been the stalwart beacon for 52 years keeping Bell County going in the right direction. We wish her the best in her well-deserved retirement." JON H. BURROWS, Bell County Judge

    2. Carol, I believe this is the family I did some research on for a graduate student at MTSU. She was working on a display for the Smith County Museum about "Women at Work " in Smith County, 1880-1930. She contacted me because I had posted a photo of Tennie Wester on the Smith County web pages. I believe her full name was Susan Tennessee "Tennie" Ballard and married Simon Wester. Tennie worked for my great-grandparents as a nanny. I believe she was Harriett's sister. If you think this is your family, I'd be happy to send you what I found. The photo is at www.tngennet.org/smith Velma

    2. hi Peggy, Yes - my father is alive. We celebrated his 95th birthday last Sunday and of course when everybody left, he couldn't remember the occasion, but that's ok, I am just thankful that he's still amongst us. Thanks again for your research and assisting me. You know i have two other siblings and they have children and would you believe, no one is interested in ascertaing our Heritage but me. Again, God Bless you , for you've been a GEM!!
