I am new to this list, so forgive me if I'm asking about something y'all already know about. My great-great-grandfather Ambrose Carter moved to Pontotoc Co., MS in 1860. According to a local history booklet, he and his siblings came from "Wolfe River in Tennessee." The only Wolfe River I've been able to locate on any map is in southern Shelby Co., between Memphis and the state line. Was there a particular settlement along the river that also used the name Wolf River? And does anyone have access to the 1850 census? Ambrose Carter would've been 11 years old then, so he wouldn't be listed as the head of household. :-) Other children that should also be listed are James B., age 18; Mary, age 10; Elizabeth, age 6; and Rachael P., age 5. If they are found on the census, who were their parents? And does anyone have a suggestion as to why, 10 years later, they would be found in a different place without their parents? Thanks for any help! Sharon
