    3. I'm reaching for straws! :) I'm looking for descendants of Alfa Lou ________ and Burt/Bert PIERCE. Alfa Lou was the best friend of my grandmother, Gertrude Irene PIKE CURRIE. My grandmother and grandfather died in 1919, leaving behind my father and his baby sister. My purpose in finding this PIERCE family is to find out more about my grandparents and perhaps a photograph. When my grandmother died it was Alfa Lou who stayed with her body to be sure she was treated with respect. Gertrude Irene PIKE b. 20 Feb 1891 Dyersburg, Dyer, TN, d. 22 Nov 1919, Dyersburg, Dyer, TN married Wayne Huff CURRIE, b. 1885, Amite Co., MS, d. 27 Nov 1919, Dyersburg, Dyer, TN. Dyersburg, Dyer, TN.............My grandmother was born and raised and taught school in Dyersburg. More than likely, these two ladies were childhood friends. During a visit to Dyersburg, Daddy remembers visiting with the PIERCE's and then spending the night with the State Senator who lived nearby. There was also a Green family who lived on the same street. Oakland, Yalobusha, MS...............The PIERCE's came to Memphis to buy a Star Touring Car ca 1929. My father and his grandmother rode back to Oakland with the Pierce's. Daddy said there were no roads, so the ride was very bumpy!.................Bert drove an International truck and made deliveries to a pulpwood mill in Charleston, Tallahatchie, MS. Memphis, Shelby, TN.............Alfa/Effie Lou and Bert PIERCE had four children: James (worked for a drug wholesaler in Memphis, Shelby, TN maybe somewhere around 2nd or Gayoso streets) Jeff, Ann (may have been raised by someone else in Oakland, Yalobusha, MS)and another daughter. The PIERCE's lived in Memphis about 1934 and owned a boarding house. My father remembers working at Kraus Cleaner's and walking to the boarding house at Court and Dunlap to eat lunch. The boarding house rented to medical school folks. The family may have sold the boarding house and moved to 144 Bellvue.
