Sunday, Sept 17th, 2000 Hello Everyone, I wanted to let everyone know that I have just volunteered to transcribe online the 1910 census for Shelby Co., for the USGenWeb Census Project. This is the very first time I have ever done anything remotely like this so I'm nervous but excited too. I have no idea what to expect. My initial interest in doing it was that I was unable to find information and was hoping to get it this way, now I am more excited about being able to help out other folks who are banging their heads on brick walls. I plan on taking my time so that I will be as accurate as possible and because I have never done this before I have no clue how long it will take. There is a mailing list just for transcribers for help, so I'm hopeful. I have to rent the mircofilms myself but I don't mind, they're not that much ($2.50 to 3.50 ea.) and they gave me all the information I needed to find out where and how to get them. They are also providing me with the template for entering the census data. I hope that any of you that might be able to squeeze in a little time here and there might volunteer to do this too. If you would like to, contact Myra Chambers, TN coordinator at MyraChamb@cs.com she is very friendly and very helpful. If you haven't yet, visit the web site Tennessee - The USGenWeb Census Project or you can access it from the Rootsweb home page under Hosted Volunteer Genealogy Projects. I think this is a truly terrific thing. Laura Metzger
