Researching the Gayle/Gale families of TN; need to know the origin of the Shelby and Haywood Co. Gayles. Am descended from William H. Gayle, Cumberland Presbyterian minister in Lincoln, Franklin and Giles counties in the 1840s-1860s. William Gayle was born in VA in 1800 and died in Jackson Co., AL, in 1872.
I am researching the CROOK families of Shelby Co. I'm interested in info on any Crook family as I'm following any and all leads. If anyone has any information on Crooks at any time period, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Debbie, I did a lookup in Goodspeed's History of Shelby Cty and several RR's are named, but it looks like the first one that would have crossed the Mississippi River would have been the Memphis & Little Rock RR. The Corps of Engineers has a large prescence there and so does the US Navy (a cavitation research facility). The island is just south of downtown Memphis and has access to the Mississippi river. also, McKellar lake is there, Elvis Presley's favorite sking spot.
