Seeking information regarding a Herman Billings and his wife whose maiden name was WATSON, but given name is unknown. When her father died in B'ham Al in 1952 she was listed as a survivor and they were supposedly living in Memphis. Any info appreciated.
I am researching Charles Webster Gilbert, who lived in Memphis in the 1920 Census with his wife and four children. Does anyone know the location of any descendants of this family? He was born in Henry Co., Tn in 1873. His parents were John Webster Gilbert and Minerva Allen, who were married in Henry Co.

I was wondering is someone could do a lookup for a Shellean Woolsey, i.e., birth, death and census records for me? He married J P Moore on 5 September 1870. I am trying to determine if he might have been a brother to James Woolsey. As the story goes James and a brother left home at an early age, James went to DeSoto County, MS about 1814-1817 and it is unknown where the brother went. It is possible he may have been a nephew. If that is the case maybe some record would reflect the parents name and their birthplace, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Norb Woolsey Tucson, AZ ( Windy but warm!!)
Hello fellow rooters: Is there anything known about migration patterns, major trails, waterways into West Tennessee from Middle Tennesssee, NW Mississippi, and Western KY at the time of its earliest settlements (in Lauderdale) 1835+ ??? As I explore possible Lauderdale County, TN. FORSYTH(E) links to the Gravel Hill community and southern McNairy County, TN FORSYTH(E) family groups; I note that both the Forked Deer River, and the Hatchie River flow to the Mississippi River from southern McNairy County westerly to Lauderdale. Because of the 1870 census "rafting" and "boating" occupations cited in the Lauderdale FORSYTH(E)'s, we surmise that these families may have journeyed via inland waterways to Hales Point, TN (on the MS Rvr) that is located near the confluence of the Forked Deer / Obion Rivers and the Mississippi River. In fact WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTH(E) bought 640 acres bounded, in part, by the Obion and Mississippi Rivers in 1871. What sources today would tell us whether the Forked Deer River, and the Hatchie River were (generally, seasonally, etc.) navigable to the Mississippi River from southern McNairy County westerly all the way thru to Lauderdale during the mid 1800's? Another speculation is they might have moved to W. Tenn via the Tennessee River running also through McNairy Co (Shiloh Battlefield/Pittsburg Landing) near Purdy, and it flows north into the Ohio which flows into the Miss. R. so they could have just floated from McNairy downstream to Ohio to Miss. R. until they stopped in Hales Point. Just tyring to make a circumstantial case. Thank you in advance for any Help! This is for "Fast Eddie" who sent me the marriage index for some Woolsey surnames. However, in haste to clean my mailbox, I inadvertantly deleted this file too. So if you would send it again, I would appreciate it, as there was a name that might fit the bill. Thanks again, Norb Woolsey Tucson
Does anyone know anything about a S.H.Woolsey living in Shelby CO? He was listed in the 1850 census. I trying to determine if he may have been a brother of my ggrandfather, James Woolsey, listed in the 1850 MS census. James supposedly came to MS with his brother about 1817-1817. Since both counties are close, I was wondering if they might not be of the same family. Thanks for any help you can give. Norb Woolsey Tucson

Greetings: I have received a dusty package of old family photos from West Tennessee FORSYTH(E) family member that have no names or dates. A few were titled only with "Fidelity Art Studio, Boonton NJ." The images and clothing would suggest a period 1860 forward, maybe. I understand that traveling photographers roamed far and wide, and that the Studio name was not necessarily indicative of the location where the photo was taken. Could anyone with more research experience share ideas on how to proceed with what (little) I do know about these pictures. Yes, I will be making an obligatory query into Boonton, NJ about photographers there. Thank You for Responding, Sterling C. Forsythe, III

QUERY: Need Help In Mid-South/McNairy/Hardin/Tippah/Northwest Mississippi Region/NC/Virginia/KY/etc. ! I am seeking corroborative evidence, from anytime prior to 1870 that my GGF WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTHE is related to FORSYTH(E)'s in McNairy County, TENN. There maybe other possibilities in Kentucky, northwest Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, or Missouri counties. WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTH(E) (1846-1913) appears in Lauderdale County, TENN 1870 census, where a 1907 birth record states WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTHE was from McNairy County, TENN. Am interested to know where my Forsyth(e) line is traceable to prior to 1870 Lauderdale County TN. William Stanton Forsyth, 1846-1913, (born in ???) first documented in 1870 census in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, Hales Point, on the Mississippi River. Listed occupation was "Rafting." Head of household was "Pamelia" a 52? yr old female. Have no other known information on father of William Stanton Forsyth. William Stanton Forsyth bought 640 acres (1873) at Hales Point, married, operated store, cotton gin, cut timber, reared large family there until death at mature age. A 1907 county birth record for his last child cited William Stanton Forsyth's birthplace as McNairy County, Tennessee. Much research in McNairy County, Tennessee has turned up no credible links among the Forsyth(e) families that are well documented there. Because of the 1870 census "rafting" occupation, we think he (they) may have journeyed from the northern states or from overseas to West Tennessee via Mississippi/Ohio Rivers. (Suspect the entry in the 1870 census record stating William Stanton Forsyth's birthplace as TN could be bogus info.) There is no record (census, deed, wills, county court minutes, birth/death records, military, etc., etc.) visible in the USA yet that predates this 1870 find. The full 1870 Lauderdale County TENN census for this starting point household (located at Hales Point on the Mississippi River about 55 miles north of Memphis....) was: S.?(or I or J) FORSYTHE 32 Male Boating [nothing further known] --> Note: "SANDY" FORSYTHE, 21, laborer, from 1860 census in BENJ. I thought I'd put out my surnames for all the newcomers. Welcome to all you newbies and we look forward to getting to know all of you! :-) I am researching the CROOK surname in Shelby Co. My line begins with James B. and Manerva CROOK, and their sons Will Amon and Andrew J. CROOK. According to census records, James was born in Georgia. Will married Annie BOLZONI, dau. of John BOLZONI of Italy; they had at least one son, Nathan, b. in Eads and moved to Reverie (Island 35), Tipton Co., Tenn. There were quite a few families in Shelby Co. around Eads and some in neighboring Fayette Co. There are still some Crook families living in the area today. If anyone has any information on these CROOKs or any others in the area, please let me know.
