    3. Molly, if you're interested in Arlington, there is an excellent book on the history of the town by Rachel Herring ... oh drat, I can't recall her last name. Possibly Davies. I know the copy at the library in Arlington circulates (unusual for local history, but I've had it out myself). It's referenced in the footnotes in one of the 3 volumes of the cemetery listing books. I'm sure you'll find Hays information there. My lines are HERRING, WYLIE, JONES, GRIFFIN, and others. Primarily WYLIE, and nearly all from Chester County, SC. I will try to dig out the copies of pages from the book I made and send the exact title. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mollie Molnar <MollMol@email.msn.com> To: <TNSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 07, 2000 2:16 PM Subject: Re: More researchers, please > > -----Original Message----- > From: TNSHELBY-D-request@rootsweb.com <TNSHELBY-D-request@rootsweb.com> > To: TNSHELBY-D@rootsweb.com <TNSHELBY-D@rootsweb.com> > Date: Friday, January 07, 2000 8:50 AM > Subject: TNSHELBY-D Digest V00 #3 > > > Have "lost" family in Shelby in the 1850's. 2. Yes, I would like to do a roll call. How should we do it? Put our surnames on the subject line? Debbie

    1. Re: Online information
    2. Sorry Denny, The 1930 census won't be out for a year or 2. Give me the name of the pool hall & I will check the 1930 telephone directory. Anyone can transcribe the census. You just have to obtain it on CD or whatever & volunteer through Genweb. I have done the 1840 Haywood Co. and have ordered the 1850 Shelby Co. Will wait to see what it looks like before I volunteer! I haven't been on the Shelby list very long, but this is the most activity I have seen. Occasionally on the Haywood Co list we have a "rollcall" where everyone lists what names they are researching. Occasionally you will find someone researching the same name. Anyone want to do this? Helen

    1. Re: Online information
    2. I think the telephone directories would be a good idea, especially maybe the midway year between census.

    2. Helen, Would be nice to see early Shelby County telephone directories on line and the 1920 census. Bob

    2. Ann, You're right....the Sumner Co. site is very impressive. I noticed there were at least 3 people transcribing some of that information. We need more researchers. Helen

    2. Nancy, You may be right. I don't even know who the listowner is. I thought if you used the "reply all" button it would go to the entire list. Is that right? Helen

    2. Yes, I agree. I lived in Memphis for about seven years and the genealogy section of the library was always crowded. (I'd sometimes have to wait for hours just to get on a reader!) Instead of individually submitting our requests to the county coordinator, perhaps we as a group, should come up with a list of projects and then prioritize them? What information would you like to see made available? Debbie dabrigman@aol.com

    1. Re: More researchers, please
    2. I agree, Shelby Co is not very active, although I don't know why, because the genealogy section at the library is usually very crowded, so there are plenty of people doing research. One suggestion is to send your ideas to the Shelby Co. Genweb coordinator. Maybe if some projects were proposed, there would be some volunteers. I started the newspaper abstracts because I was reading the papers trying to find information on my family and thought it was such a waste not to write down what I was reading. Just a thought........ 2. I too would like to see more information on this country. For being such an important county there is very little information. The county page on the USGenWeb forum has very little to offer. It's interesting that I find more useful information on much smaller counties. I am researching for Stewarts, Mat(t)hews, Cochrans, Wells in the county from the early 1800's on. 3. Helen, your Newspaper Extracts at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnnews/> are fantastic. I can only guess at how long it must take to transcribe them, but they are wonderful resource. Over the past couple of years, I've undertaken a few regional one-name-studies usually involving at least a couple of thousand people in the hope that, amongst all that, I'll discover a gem about my own people with those surnames. Usually, my own family comprises only a small portion. Like you, I've been throwing the data onto the web for others to use and then advising the relevant discussion lists. It's a great feeling when I can help someone else with their own research. Please keep up the good work. I, for one, am keen to see what transpires from the next batches, whenever that may be. 3. Hi Robyn, hope this does not confuse you. My mother, Mary Lucille Harrelson was born in Memphis in 1910. She attended Immaculate Conception Church and St. Thomas Catholic School as well as Catholic High. She lived at 766 Willett (located between Central & Lamar about 3 blocks from IC church) One of her best friends was Lucille BORO. They played bridge together and very possibly attended school together. St. Mary of the Woods college in IN was a catholic college, I believe. My point in mentioning that is that possibly the Boro(s) were of that faith. Good luck on your research, Larose Adams Wynne At 11:34 1/8/2000 -0500, Robyn wrote: >Hi ! > Looking for info on Rosalind A. HOW are these names connected? Does anyone have access to a Central High 1917 yearbook? I'd like to put the love story together...it is very sweet! >Robyn >Orlando, FL >( lived in Memphis 1959-1998) > > > > > >
