Just received more information on this surname. Cicero Rhoades was a Civil War Vet - who served under General Braxton Bragg, Company A - Infantry and fought at the Battle of Stone River (Murfreesboro). He was born in Mississippi but lived most of his life in Millington TN. Obit states he was 87 yrs old at time of death (no year/date on obit). Obit shows RHODES not RHOADES. Other info was taken from an article called "Thirty Seconds >From Death" Johnny Reb, Ill, Recalls Slaughter. Possibly from a Memphis newspaper????? Any info would be appreciated. Hi ! Looking for info on Rosalind A. BORO and Eugene GAIA who went to Central High School in 1917-18 She lived at 1887 Cowden Ave in 1918 ,went to St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. >From some letters, 1918-1923, I see Eugene worked at Louis Gaia and Son Real Estate Ins. in Lee Bldg. and lived at 1226 N. Parkway. Eugene was very in love with Rosalind. The names don't come up in any internet search and there is no roots-L surname list for them... HOWEVER, the letters were with papers of a Mrs. William PRIDE ( Marguerite) and there was a bio of her husband on the web.....a very prominent OB-GYN in Memphis Society. HOW are these names connected? Does anyone have access to a Central High 1917 yearbook? I'd like to put the love story together...it is very sweet! Robyn Orlando, FL ( lived in Memphis 1959-1998)

I'm looking for information on the Bellanger - LaCoste families. Thomas Bellanger married Ellen LaCoste, they had two boys, Thomas (b; 8/6/1871 Memphis, TN) and Fred (b; abt 1873 Memphis, TN). The story goes that Thomas and Ellen were killed in a cyclone that hit Memphis. The boys were put in an orphanage and Thomas was adopted by the Kanapkey family. Would love to know more about these families, the cyclone and where Fred may have gone. Any help would be appreciated. Kristy Williams http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kdwiam

Hi Folks! First let me thank Helen for all her hard work! I found mention of some of the early families I am researching. My interest is very early through the 1840's my family were Chickasaw and Cherokee mixed blood families and others who were allied with them. Some of the families are my line and others I have found mentioned in various records concerning my families; Allen, John R Cherokee mixed blood trader, b ca 1780 Allen, Wiley b. abt 1805 son of above and Catherine (Chickasaw possible daug of Thomas Love & full blood wife) Allen, Levica (Vicey)b. abt 1798 daug. of John & Catherine m. 1st Robert Bayley Chickasaw Agent, 1812 , 2nd Christopher Moore b 1801 Arkansas Post (possible mixed blood) Allen, Mary Alice b 1813 Chickasaw Bluffs, m Harvey Bacon b. 1800 OH. Moore Family - Christopher(see above), Colbert b 1803 Arkansas Post, Catherine b 1790 La. (maybe Terr.) Annie b Ms 1820. Christian, Wyatt, b Va appears on many documents of my Chickasaw and several Chickasaws named children after him. Fletcher, Joshua, signed marriage record for Mary Allen some family connection not yet found. These families ranged on both sides of the Mississippi in TN, Northern MS and Eastern Arkansas. I have lots more information including probate papers for John R Allen who died in 1833 from Cholera. Linda Davis Ft Worth, TX
In Aug `1997 the Commercial Appeal ran an article "CEMETERY HOLDS UP DEVELOPMENT. According to the article the cemetery was bounded by Appling Road, Goodlett Farm Parkway, Garrett Ridge Road and Dexter Raod. What was the outcome of this. Were the bodies moved to another cemetery and if so where? Does anyone know the names of those buried in this cemetery? I am looking for the burial of Elizabeth MOSELEY died 1842 and her daughters Mary Ann E. Moseley CLIFTON, died 1835 and Catherine Moseley MARKHAM died c. 1845. Would be interested in any info on this cemetery. Dorothy Cox Sugar Land TX

Hello! My name is Caroline and I am researching the following Shelby County Surnames: Schorr Gatti Pfaff Borg Thomas Burdick Arnoult
Well, I am most appriciative of anything that some takes the time to put on line!!!!!!!!!! My family lines in Memphis were the Schorrs,Gatti's,Pfaff's, Thomas,Arnoult and Borg. Most of my family either ran a local business or worked at a local business. I had thought that next time I am able to make a trip down there to the Peabody Library it would be interesting to look through some of the newspaper articles in the Memphis Room about the local business and people that the articles were written about. For instance several years ago when I was there I just happened across an article written on my great grandfather Harry L. Thomas and his wife Camille Arnoult Thomas due to them celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and he even told the story of their wedding day in the article. That was such a great find!! Well anyway, hope you all have a great day!
