I have a HOWELL ( my g-grandfather was Adminstrator of his will) tht I would like to find. His name is HENRY B. HOWELL and he died in Shelby County around Dec 15, 1884. His wife's name was ADDIE. He owned a farm outside of Memphis and was part owner of H B Howell and Co.; a cotton business in Memphis. When he died he also had land in Holly Springs, Marshall Co. Ms. I think iin some way he is related to my g-g-grandmother Caroline Elizabeth Howell who was from Rutherford Co. Tn. Could anyone please tell me what cemetery he is buried in? And maybe the address? Thank-you for your time , Elizabeth g-granddaughter of John Howell Cocke - who was a "W.P. Lane Texas Ranger"
Hi! There is a website for the Elks fraternity listed on "Cyndi's Genealogy List." The address is www.elks.org. Haven't been able to access it with my computer tonight. In my grandmother's Bible there was a Oddfellows' memorial concerning the 1874 death of her father in Haywood Co., TN. I found a reference book in our local library that gave me names and addresses of the National Oddfellows' Fraternal Order. Writing to ask about the memorial I found, the organization responded that they regretted there were no records from that time period. I surely hope that the Elks have records. I know what "brick walls" are like! Does anyone have any idea if there is any ELKS LODGE information from the 1800's available to the public that would be of genealogical information? My g-grandfather William Borg was a member of the Elks Lodge in Memphis in the 1860's. He is my "brick wall" so I am grasping at straws to make a break through. Any ideas? Thanks CBG

I would like to know if there were any Shetter marriages in Shelby Co., besides Artalissa, Latecia, Minerva, and Martin, I know this is a big request but they all got married between 1841 and Abt. 1855....I'm looking for a Jeremiah in particular, all the Shetters in Shelby Co. were siblings, I have all of the above except Jeremiah. There were four other children that I have no information on ... The name has been spelled Shutters, Shetter and Shelter....Any help would be appreciated....Thanks in advance, Dolores Wagner >>

What an "interesting" family! I think you might use a Soundex search of the 1900 census to answer your questions about the variations of RENA. All of the 1900 census was listed in the Soundex index - because people were able to use a census listing in place of a birth certificate for Social Security. This is why (I've been told) that the Soundex for the 1880 census only lists families with children age ten and under.
