    1. James Henry Rhodes and Julia Dunbar
    2. Dear Mailing Lists: In my Family Research, my RHODES line has always been my "brick wall" but I finally tracked down a death certificate for my great grandfather (which lists his parents names) and although it turns out that my great grandfather was a Junior which didn't help much on the RHODES side, it also gave his mother's maiden name as DUNBAR. His obituary also gives his sister's married names as STEWART, DICKSON and GRAY. Here's who I'm looking for: James Henry RHODES, Jr. (b. 4 July 1877 Tipton Co, TN d. 24 Jan 1960 Memphis, Shelby Co. TN). You can read his obit at my family website at: http://home.att.net/~littlehouseantiques/jhrobit.html His parents are: James Henry RHODES, Sr. and Julia DUNBAR. Have no dates for James Henry RHODES, Sr. or Julia DUNBAR, but am assuming that J. H. RHODES, Jr. was their first child and that they were married circa 1876 probably somewhere in TIPTON or SHELBY Co. TN. His known siblings were: 1) Mrs. Josie STEWART (lived in Memphis, TN in 1960) 2) Mrs. Susan DICKSON (lived in Memphis, TN in 1960) 3) Mrs. Fannie GRAY (lived in Kerrville, TN in 1960) If anyone on the RHODES, DUNBAR, STEWART, DICKSON or GRAY mailing lists knows of any connections to the RHODES surname (especially in the counties of SHELBY or TIPTON TN) I'd be very pleased to hear from you and more than willing to share the data that I have. Thanks in advance for your help! Kathy L. Rhodes P.S. Can anyone on the Shelby County TN list advise me on how to get the personnel department of the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Company, to "cough up" the employee records for James Henry RHODES, Jr. ? I emailed them but thus far they have been unresponsive. He retired from this company in 1949, is it even likely that they would still retain his employee records?

    1. Divorce Lookups
    2. Hello, I have gained information which indicates a Lera(Lena?) Clonts(Clounts?) and Loftin Richard Watson were divorced in Shelby Co some time after 1920. After divorcing Loftin, Lera married a man named Height(spelling?) and then divorced him. She subsequently married a man named Forrest(spellling?). If someone is going to be doing divorce research and might take a quick look for these I would appreciate it very much. If these records might be on line somewhere, I would appreciate the url JNWatson

    3. Less than 24 hours ago I posted a request for assistance in finding the "possible" burial site of my ancestor Samuel O. Burden/Burdan on this site and several others. Thanks to the kind response from Shelby Co. folks such as John Cothern, Donald L. Hawkins, and BSTark....I now know where Samuel is buried, when he fell to typhoid during the Civil War. I've been at genealogy for more than 6 years, on-line for most of those years and have never encountered such friendly and helpful people, nor such quick responses. Thanks to all of you. 3. Here's an interesting website called The Inflation Calculator that compares what money is worth at different times: http://www.westegg.com/inflation According to this, $11000 in 1874 would be worth $148612.71 in 1999. Have fun with it!
