I have a history book on my CHILDRESS family (very incomplete). There were 55 families from Shelby County, Tenn. that went to Shelby County, Texas with my George C. CHILDRESS. Here is what I have: Daniel HOPKINS, the PAXTONS, TRUITTS, OLIVERS, SAPPS,BOGARDS, STILLWELLS, ROBERTSONS & others. If these are your surnames check the Shelby County Texas web page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txshelby/ Frances
Hey, listers.... I sent this separately earlier to Jim Bradley, but apparently no one else has this link either so here it is for all of you to use: Try this URL: http://seidata.com/~genealogy/cdlist.html It is a list of volunteers who own CD's and are willing to do lookups! Caroline Some surnames I am searching in Memphis AND/OR Shelby Co, TN: CAMPBELL, BELL, RITCHIE/RICHIE, HURT, COHOE, CARR, ORR
Hello Jim, If you belong to Ancestry.com, they have the database for 1851-1900 TN marriages. You must be a member to use this database. There are many different kinds of databases on their site. http://www.ancestry.com I looked in my book "Marriages of Shelby County, Tennessee 1820-1858". There were no marriages for a Robert Bradley. There are marriages for: Bradley, Betsy, Charlott C., William P., Wm. P., Z.Z. and also Bradly, John, Polly. Hope you find what your'e looking for. I just went to the Family Tree Maker web site and did a search on my grandfather, Robert B. Bradley. It pulled up 5 listings. Only one was for TN and it said Marriage Index: TN, 1851-1900 (#235). These dates fit and since this is the only time I've seen a listing for Robert B. Bradley in TN, my hopes are high!! My question is this, Family Tree Maker is selling the CD which has that information, for $30.00. Is there any where on-line or by mail, that I could optain this same information? I don't have a marriage date or county so it would seem that the CD is my only option. Thanks Jim James F. Hello, I am new to this list. I would appreciate any help. I am trying to find info on Thomas Russell & Lucinda CHILDRESS. Their 2nd son George C. CHILDRESS b. about 1798 in Shelby County, Tenn. George went to Texas in the year 1818 with 55 families. George wrote the Declaration of Independence for Texas. Any help or look up will be very much appreciated. Thanks Frances
James Bradley, You may want to try the e-bay web site. A few days ago I was there and someone who must have purchased every conceivable Family Tree Maker cd is selling them all very cheap, some for $1 or $2. I hope you find the one you are looking for. If you do, I would really appreciate it it if you'd be willing to share the information because I am looking for some info from about that time period also but I have no specifics at this point. Hope you find what you are looking for. Laura A. Metzger

HELP! HELP! PLEASE HELP! :-) Well, once again I think I may have a found a tiny crack in one of my brick walls. I have just found that John was born in Memphis, Shelby Co., TN abt. 1828. His first son was named James S. Buchanan. So with naming patterns being as they are, is anyone researching a James Buchanan born about 1800 that lived in Memphis, Shelby Co., TN about 1828-1830. Did he have a son named John A.? Also, since his father-in-law's name was James, it is possible that his father was also named John A., since John A. seems to travel down the branches of the tree. I would love to break this brick wall wide open. After all, we have been researching this branch for more than twenty years. I will also accept suggestions gladly on other possibilities. Hello, I am searching for any information on my g-grandfather Andrew (Turley?) WADE b. abt 1900 probably in Shelby, Co. He had a sister named Belle who married a man with the surname GIBSON. Their father was Ethan Pinkerton WADE b. 1859 d. 5 Oct. 1941 in San Mateo, CA. According to Ethan's d.c. his spouse was the "Late MTTTIE WADE" apparently a typo on the name. (Mittie or Mattie?). I believe Andrew WADE died of a heart attack around 1925 in San Francisco, CA and his remains were shipped back to Shelby Co. by the Navy for burial. During Andrew's life he was enlisted in the Navy but served in no wars but I believe he was stationed on the SS Heron and sent to Japan after the large earthquake in 1922 or 23 to help. I am thinking TURLEY may be Andrew's mother's maiden name. I also know that his father Ethan was Irish. If you have any suggestions as to where I might find some info or know anything, I would be greatly apperciate hearing from you. Laura A. Metzger

Jim, the library has them on microfilm. You could get an interlibrary loan on it. Bobbie
In that 1891 census, did you look it up by the address to see who else lives there? I found that to be a great tool. I looked in the 1885 city directory and found lots of White's, but no Laura. Bobbie
Since I've had no luck with finding Robert B. Bradley or his wife Martha Snow in the 1910 census, does anyone know if there are any city directories for Memphis? There son, Robert T. was born about 1906 so it's possible that his parents could be listed in a directory shortly before or after his birth. Thanks Jim
I am new to the list and wonder if anyone can help me with a brick wall. We are searching for the parents of my wife's g-grandmother Katie May WHITE and have not been able to determine who were her parents. Katie is listed in the 1891 Memphis City Directory living on Vollentine Avanue, east of Breedlove Avenue. In 1892, Katie married John W. BUSBY of Eudora, Mississippi. Can anyone suggest any Memphis or Shelby County research sources from the 1890 period that may be helpful in tracking Katie May White down?
