    1. [TN-Sevier] Re: WILLIAMS (Solomon), HENRYS Jones Cove
    2. In a message dated 11/3/01, Kimberly wrote -- << Solomon (Williams) first shows up in the 1830 Sevier County census married to Lucinda (dau. of Archibald McMahan). Census shows his date of birth as 1805. >> Kimberly and other Sevier County Researchers; I too have a keen interest in Jones Cove families and Williams in particular. I have a Thomas L. WILLIAMS & Franky MURRELL married ca. 1830, and first identifiable readily in 1840 Cocke Co TN Census with their oldest two daughters. Census records say that they were both born in TN, he of TN born parents (so early settlers), she of Virginia born parents. Cemetery records in Dade Co , Missouri shows both born in 1810. I have been working backwards from Missouri in 1870 census, Benton Co AR 1860, Kaufman Co TX 1850, Cocke Co TN 1840. Between 1840 and 1850 they also spent several years in Moniteau Co Missouri. In all of their wanderings west, they are ever present companions of two or more HENRY men, branches of the HENRY families settling around Jones Cove. Some of these Jones Cove Henrys moved east a few miles and hit Cocke Co. Two in particular, Joseph Henry and Anderson Henry are with Thomas WILLIAMS' family everywhere but possibly TX -- based on deeds, land records, census in various combinations. With respect to Franky MURRELL, I am confident that she is likely the daughter of William MURRELL of Cocke Co. HOWEVER, given the fact that there is this connection with the Henrys I am also looking at Jones Cove Williams. Since both Cocke and Sevier are both burned counties, I think my best bet might be to figure exactly where the early Williams land grants were in Sevier and Cocke, and maybe up to Jefferson. There, however, two good prospects in the 1830 Cocke Co census for his parents, and they live close to a SWAGERTY family, whom they also end up literally next door to in Benton Co 30 years later. Kimberly, I am interested in any information you have on the Jones Cove Williams's. HOWEVER, I have gone over the census for Sevier Co 1830 (transcribed on line). and I don't find any Solomon Williams...HOWEVER I DO FIND A SOLOMON WILLIAMS IN COCKE CO 1830....Close by my MURRELLS, several other Williams, and some Henrys (see list at end, with page numbers). The 1830 Cocke census shows him with three sons 0-5 years, himself 20-30, and wife 20-30.. He is living only two households away from an aged Jordan Williams married to Julia Bryant (online info) , who by some online accounts had these children -- Lucy WILLIAMS b: 3 APR 1806 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN James WILLIAMS b: 1806 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN Mary WILLIAMS b: 5 JUN 1810 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN Elizabeth "Betsy" WILLIAMS b: 11 OCT 1811 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN John WILLIAMS III b: 20 FEB 1813 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN Berry WILLIAMS b: 8 FEB 1814 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co, TN Anderson WILLIAMS b: 1819 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co, TN Dillard Lee WILLIAMS b: 9 JUN 1821 in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN However...ANOTHER source attributes these children to John Williams and Mary Polly HENRY!! Help me out here. The online transcription of Sevier Co 1830 is here. I don't see a Solomon anywhere. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/tn/sevier/seviercensus.htm He is there. Sevier, in 1840.http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/tn/sevier/seviercensus.htm and 1850 with alot of other Williams and some Henrys-- http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/sevier/census/1850/indx-s-y.txt (page 384 beg.) What do you think? There also are McMahans in Cocke Co 1830, 1840, 1850, etc. Maybe Solomon moved a little west??? Of course, being as how they are both burned, we need to keep being creative. Greene Co also holds clues as a parent county, maybe the not so burned Jefferson Co. I am VERY curious about the names of Solomons children. Can you give them to me? My Thomas Williams children were Ira, William, Permelia, Polly, Matilda & Mary. These folks he "ran with" had a fondness for Anderson & Commodore Perry as first names. Well, those are my thoughts. I do believe your Solomon probably haled from Cocke, and those folks all lived in the Cosby area and in a string several miles to the north....close enough for courting!!! Best Regards, Janet Hunter >From 1830 Cocke Co census.
