    3. Janet, OK, this is what I have and what I have been told <g> Welcome to the confusing world of Williams' in Cocke/Sevier Counties. First of all, I'm sorry. My eyes skipped a line and I misread my info. I did know Solomon was in Cocke County in 1830. His three sons listed would have been Eli born 1825, James born 1827 and Wilson born 1829. Now I have been told by several researchers that these families probably didn't actually move in the early 1800. The county boundaries did. In some instances, state boundaries did. Different surveyors, different techniques, etc..... Much of my information has been gather and discussed....and discussed..... and discussed at the yearly Williams family reunion in Sevierville. Solomon's other children are Mary b.1833, Sarah b. 1834, George Washington b. 1834, another James b. 1839, Dochia b.1841, Matilda b.1842, and McKinney b. 1847. I also know that James b.1827 and Wilson died before 1850. In the 1870 census, living with Solomon are the following: Mary (58), Lucinda (13), Margaret M. (11) and Solomon (8). I believe these are probably grandchildren. The 1880 census states that both of Solomon's parents were born in South Carolina but I have no other proof of that. First let me tell you that when I asked some members of my family still living in Sevier County where Solomon's people came from they all told me Haywood County, North Carolina and looked at me like I was an idiot and had just asked them what color the sky was. I've spoken with researchers there and can't find the proof. Haywood does butt up to what is now Sevier and Cocke Counties. In 1811 a William Williams purchased 100 acres of land in Haywood County, North Carolina. He sold that property in 1815. On April 5, 1824 a Robert Mathis is listed on the survey of property for William Williams in Sevier County On May 31, 1824, William Williams and daniel Williams are listed in the survey of property for Eli McMahan in Sevier County. in 1825, William Williams is listed as the agent of Eli McMahan in a land transation. ( Keep in mind Solomon married Eli McMahan's daughter, Lucinda. I believe this William is William "Billy" Williams born 1769 in Norfolk, Virginia who married Mary elizabeth Walker b. 1772 also in Norfolk. The only children I have listed for them are John b.1798, Berry b. 1814, Daniel and Polly. In spite of the 1880 census, this is who I think is probably Solomon's father. I'd LOVE to know for sure, though. It is interesting that Berry's first son was named William and his second son was named Solomon. In fact, there are Solomon's in every generationof these families. Now I realize Solomon is a biblical name and would have been used more commonly that today but none of my other unrelated family lines in Sevier County use it. Makes you think.........
