Squire died during the war, 2nd South Carolina Rifles. To escape the violence and strife of post war Pickens District, Elisabeth Smith Sanders and other widows, with their children, came by wagon train to Sevier County in the 1860s. Children of Squire and Elisabeth Sanders; Martha J. [born 1851] Married James Emory [son of Elisabeth Sanders Emory] Frances C. [born 1852] married William L. Merritt [son of William T. Merritt] Millford M. [born 1854] married Caroline Helton and/or Mary C. Helton Joseph O. [born 1855] married Mary Ellen Galyean [daughter of John Franklin Galyean] Marena M. [born 1858] married William H. Covington James "Squire" [born 1862] married Emily Catherine Creswell [daughter of Rufus M. Creswell] I have letters written by these families in the late 1800s, and will share copies to anyone researching these lines.
