Cades Cove is located in what was Blount County before the National Park Service took possession. In Inez E. Burns' book, History of Blount County, She mentions the Hyatts in a section on Cades Cove. 'From 1821 to 1836 William TIPTON (Fighting Billy) sold about 2,000 acres to his Carter County TN relatives, some of whom moved on to Walker Co., GA, about 1830. William's son Jacob stayed in Cades Cove until the 1840's when he went to Missouri along with the HYATTS and others.....' Durwood Dunn is his book, "Cades Cove An Appalachian Community" mentions the HYATT famiy also: "An excellant example of this practice is the HYATT Lane, a main road across the cove. The HYATT family , for whom it was named, moved to Missouri during the 1840's, but their name continued to be used into the twentieth century." He also mentions land auctioned off after the Civil War and tells that the old HYATT farm containing 80 acres was sold to J. C. N. BOGLE for $16.00 a ridiculously low price. Good luck in your search.
