I am looking for the parents of my gggrandfather, William J Jenkins, Feb 10, 1812 - Mar 15, 1877 (born in TN, died in Jacksonville, Calhoun Co., AL) I found the following census information that fits the age of my William, but need to know if anyone knows anything about the following. I will list the census info, then my specific questions and comments John Jenkins, 1830, Sevier Co., TN: 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 40-50, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 40-50; 1 male slave 24-36, 3 female slaves 10-24, 1 female slave 36-55. John Jenkins, 1840, Sevier Co., TN: 2 males 20-30, 2 males 50-60, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 50-60 William Jenkins, 1840, Sevier Co., TN: 1 male 20-30, 1 female 0-5, 1 female 30-40 Mary Jenkins, 1850, Sevier Co., TN: 59 born in SC First of all, I do not think the above William is the son of the above John because John had two males in the household in 1830 and two in 1840 in which the ages correspond. I added this William because he would fit the age of my gggrandfather, also. Does anyone know about the William? My William J was in Coweta Co., GA in 1850 and married Elizabeth ? She was born in 1826, so if this is the same William, this was a 1st wife. Is this Mary the wife of John? I do not find a John Jenkins in the 1850 census but this Mary would fit the age of the female in the 1830 and 1840 censuses. What are the names of the other persons in the 1830 and 1840 censuses? Any information about the above Jenkins' would be appreciated. This is my 1st attempt at trying to find my ggggrandparents and want to eliminate them one by one as I find any that might be mine. I haven't searched other counties yet. Thank you in advance for all your help. Keitha Jenkins Kirk Weaver, AL
Keitha, Although I've not researched the Jenkins line there are many early records (1830's) for Jenkins in Cocke Co., TN as well. Some lived and married into various lines in the Cosby area, which is next to Jones Cove in Sevier Co., TN. Are you sure your Jenkins are from Sevier?
