I found out yesterday from my great aunt that her father Charles Lewis Huskey originally came from the mountains, Gatlinburg or surronding area. She didn't know her grandfathers first name but this is what she told me. My gggrandfather Huskey was married 3 times. His first two wives had 3 daughters each. His third marriage was to a woman from the German settlement. She had 3 sons, one of whom was my ggreatgrandfather, Charles Lewis. One was named Benjamin (Uncle Ben). Don't know the last ones name. After the boys were grown they left the area and headed towards Morgan County, TN. GGGrandfather Huskey and wife seperated, she going back to the German settlement and he lived alone. Charles Lewis Huskeys birthdate is 1875. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone researching the Huskeys please reply. Thanks so much

    3. Does anyone out here know who the below families are, and why they have a 1 separate MIRES living with them? Do they connect? *NOTE: The reason they mean so much to me is that my ggg James Napoleon MYERS b abt 1839 somewhere in Tennessee is a major brickwall for myself and like cousins; fire destroyed all records in 1856 and it's fair fact that Napoleon was left with the MOYERS family in Jefferson Co., TN. Now, the reason these MIRES have meaning to this great mystery is because my Napoleon named his first son Pleasant (my gg). No where do you find this name used in his wife Margaret LINDSEY/ROBERTS/EMERT lines, except with his first cousin John Alexander MOYERS/MYERS and his wife Nancy GANN when they name their son Pleasant too. I just find it odd. Maybe the below Pleasant MIRES is (I dunno).. Somehow the missing link. ANOTHER NOTE: There are other Pleasant MYERS in East TN during this period but they're born much later so they are all ruled out. >From Sevier Co., TN 1850 Census 12th District: WHO IS THIS HEAVY MIRES & N.M. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DiB.2ACI/215 Message Board Post: The book TENNESSEE WILLS AND ADMINISTRATIONS lists all wills on record in Tennessee for the years 1779-1861. There was a fire in the Sevier County courthouse in 1856. The earliest surviving will in the county is dated 1849. The introduction to the book shows that while it lists the wills for Sevier County, it does not include items such as Sevier County estate records or estate inventories. If there was no dispute over the estate, then the county court would have been the most likely to rule on an estate; if there was a dispute over the property, then the chancery court would have ruled on it. The fire at the Sevier County courthouse destroyed county court minutes before 1856. The fire destroyed the chancery court minutes prior to 1854.

    1. [TN-Sevier] RE: HURST/HOUST PA
    2. Chrystie
    3. Just a note to let the HURST MYERS MOYERS and PA to TN groups know that I just got back from a 2 day research tour of Lebanon, but mostly Berks County, PA. I found many HOUST/HURST MEYER MOYER burials as well as roads & businesses named as such. My research was in the MYERSTOWN, CHARMING VILLAGE, STOUCHSBERG, SCHAFFERTOWN, HEINDENBERG, REISTOWN, WOMELSDORF areas of TULPEHOKEN in Berks CO., PA between the Lebanon County line and Reading PA area. I can tell you that there were only 3 basic types of churches I seen and I seen/visited a lot; Mennonite, Amish and Reformed all dating back from 1734 to mid 1700's. Some of the other towns were (so many) SCHAFFERTOWN, 5 miles east of MYERSTOWN; SCHAFFERTOWN had 2 main churches. 1 was very very old with a big very well kept cemetery up behind it on top of a good sized hill where you can see all the surrounding valleys and South Mtn from; this church was St. Lukes Evangelical Luthern; though it was formed in 1730 by the congregation the church now standing was built in 1765 with enlargements and remodeling down in 1884. The surnames I seen in this huge cemetery were HOUST HURST MILLER MEYER MOYER OBE (new on for me), DIFFENBACH WEAVER BOLLINGER CHAMBERS EMERICK (I know they're surname changed to EMERT'S) SIEMONS (SIMMONS) WIEDMEN WHITMAN ALBRIGHT so many; Jonas EMERT b Jan 21, 1802 d 1878; Marian E. EMERICH b 1776 d??; Leonard CHAMBERS 1/17/1767 d 1866 Too many to list. I took a lot of photos and I suggest if anyone is interested in this huge old cemetery where Reformed Settlers were known to come in and settle upon arrival thru Phila. PA early 1700 to mid 1700's write to Berks County, PA Historical Society & the PA Historical Society; a sign suggested as such on the site. You can find them out here on the internet at http://www.googl.com/ where I'm heading shortly myself to search, too. Another very old town just down the road known for very early 1700's settlements was called WOMELSDORF, about 6 miles down on Route 219 from SCHAFFERTOWN; and in between this area, about 3 miles up 501 was REISTOWN where I found a Brethren Church (Amish or Mennonite, prob. Amish as I was surronuded by nothing but) called HEINDENBERG Church of Brethren I found loads of MOYER & MEYER (more then just a few) in the same line; BOLLINGER MILLER WEAVER a lot of ROYER & GETTEL'S whom married into these MEYER MOYER'S. Just to name a few: SAME ROW ALL NEXT TO ONE ANOTHER AND READ AS SUCH: Abraham P. MEYER b 1872 d 1947 & Wife Elizabeth B. b 1879 d 1951 Howard, son of Abraham & Lizzie MEYER b Oct 23, 1902 d Mar 21, 1904 2y Abraham MOYER b Oct 1, 1830 d Oct 2, 1905 74 y 11 m 28d Elizabeth MEYER, wife of Abraham b Jan 8, 1834 d Oct 22, 1903 69y 9 mo 14 days Johns, Chapter 16 Verse 33 Lizzie MOYER daughter of Abraham & Elizabeth MOYER b Nov 21, 1863 d May 31, 1884 20 y 6 mo 10d German Verses on bottom of stone Father John C. MOYER b June 21, 1854 d March 25, 1932 Mother Amanda G. b June 26, 1853 d Feb 26, 1933 Tillie M. MOYER wife of Nathan G. ROYER b Sept 6, 1859 d Apr 2, 1904 41 y 6 mo 20 days. *NOTE the variation of the surname MOYER to MEYER 4 more miles up the road from Schafferstown, you turn left onto Rt 501 N to Rt 219 EAST & again and you're heading towards Womelsdorf just outside of MEYERSTOWN crossing from Lebanon into Berks County, PA and there were 3 very old good churches, 2 w/cemeteries. 1 - The Zion & St. John Reeds Luthern built 1824; their website is http://www.reedschurch.org no cemetery 2 - Talpehoeken Trinty United Church of Christ <--- Great place. I'm sending away for this very old fair sized well maintained cemetery; SIMMONS MEYER MYERS MOYERS buried there along with a long list of many more. This was part of 100 acres deed to this area by Caspar WISTAR of Phila. PA in 1738 for schooling and churches for the founding "reformed" lutherans that settled in this area. It's located on TULPEHOKEN Road in Berks Co., PA. 3 - Evangelical Reformed Church on LONG'S Church Road just to the right off of Rt 219 heading east abt 4 miles outside of MYERSTOWN; huge big church with a cemetery that's very large but not so well taken care of (the older section was a mess) the newer section was fine. Need to research this one. That's all I can tell you and I can not tell you anything else except the I know the my EMERT/EMERICK lines came in from Berks Co., PA as well as a speculation MYERS line; I know that my ggg's children married into CHAMBERS. That my lines were in Sevier/Jefferson/Blount Counties of TN by the 1800's and the same exact surnames that I have listed above either married directly in my direct lines in TN or inter-married; as well, it's known that a few traveled together from the areas I mention in Berks Co., PA. So... That's it, nothing certain. I'm making another trip up there this summer to get inside of libraries. Will keep you posted then. P.S. I've only been home a few hours after driving for days; I'm tried and I might have posted in error or didn't explain right. Sorry, did the best I could. -- -- -- -- -- Chrystie MYERS

    1. [TN-Sevier] Leftovers from ETHS book sale
    2. Billie R. McNamara
    3. Someone asked me to e-mail a list of books on my table at the ETHS workshop yesterday. I figured I'd share the list here in case anyone's interested. And, so there's no question about commercialism, there's no money being made here by me. I sell my stuff pretty much at cost, and the other folks' stuff I just try to make available with no markup. The Museum's books are fundraisers for it. So, here goes... Books I have (write to me personally for ordering instructions -- mailto:billie@tnhillbillie.net ): Hitchhiking Along the Holston, by Mayme Parrott Wood -- reprint of the original, which was done in the 1960's. Awesome Strawberry Plains area history. Hardback, dust jacket, shrink wrapped. Price is $16.00, plus postage and sales tax if applicable. I've got 10 or 12 left, I think. Lilly in the Valley, by Cleve Smith -- story of drug scion Eli Lilly's campaign in the Civil War Battle of Mossy Creek (now Jefferson City). Paperback. Price is $12.00, plus postage and sales tax if applicable. I've got 3 left. Campaign to Nowhere, by Cleve Smith -- story of Longstreet's march through Knoxville, Jefferson, Sevier, and present-day Hamblen County areas. Awesome -- documentation, maps, photos, and incredible detail. Paperback. Price is $25.00, plus postage and sales tax if applicable. Limited printing, so copies are becoming scarce. Tennessee Land: Its Early History and Laws, by me. Written as a guidebook for anyone researching Tennessee land records. He does incredible work, plus he's extremely reasonable in his prices. AND -- bigggggg news -- Charles has requested digital scans of the 1895 Knox County Landowners Map from the Library of Congress. It shows every owner in the county in the spot where he/she owned land. Charles will be able to print it in full color, either the full map in huge format or individual sections in poster sizes. 3. Hello Would this happen to be a black family? This is the only family that even half was fits the description. The name of the wife does not match, but it could be a middle name. There was no other family with a son by the name of Thomas of near the right age in TN. I do not know if you realize this or not, but if a family was of mixed blood other that white before 1900, they were sometimes enumerated as black, and this included Indian heritage. I found a family in 1880 in Madison County, NC where the father was black, the mother white, the children were all black. In 1900, the same thing. When I was in the courthouse one day, I happened across the delayed birth records of the children of this couple as lo and behold they were all recorded as WHITE, do that told me that they had to be of native American Heritage. Sorry I do not have the house numbers, this is from the National Index and Census. 3. This is from LindaBee on my Candyman list, this is a direct copy of her post because she explains it quite well. This is not a paid site. (Bill, I am tooting your horn!) GenHelp :: Genealogy Help at Your Fingertips http://www.genhelp.org/index.php Where have I been? I didn't know about this marvelous web site. This is wonderful. All kinds of free data online along with help from top of the line webmasters and authors. This is a dream of a website: easy to use with great tutorials suitable for a raw beginner to an experienced genealogist. There are databases to find online and a states list to check. You can read all the messages, and comment on them if you want. You can ask questions and one of the webmasters will reply. There is a list of categories to click on in the right column and a list of topics/subjects to click on in the left column. This site is so EASY! Very simple, very clear and self-explanatory. No getting lost in this web site. THEN!! I checked out the webmasters of this site. That did it! Dennis Patridge of Access Genealogy and Surname Web...anything Dennis does, I'm in it! An added plus: he's from New Hampshire and I'll bet he talks funny too!<g> Lorine McGinnis Schulze, noted author and founder of Olive Tree Genealogy is here and so is Judy White of Access Genealogy and Native American Links andNative American Nations. Kathy Reid (my children's surname ....I have to like her!<g>) who has the Ancestor Search web page along with PA Civil War Volunteers and the U.S. Military Research web site is on the list of webmasters too. I've saved the best for last. Bill Cribbs, who is a member of the Genie-Angels list, is also a webmaster. His pages include Obituary Central, CemSEARCH, WebWide Surname Locator, Historical & Genealogical Societies of the U.S. plus more. I joined today!<g> Once you sign up you can arrange your personal page just as you want it. This is a wonderful site. I already have a site I'd like to recommend to them for the State of Connecticut. If I check my files I know I will find more sites to submit for inclusion approval. You have to go see this. What a gold mine for genealogists. Linda Bee PS: Bill, I got here from Family Tree Magazine's list of "Just Plain Great" web sites. You are the newest addition. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
