>From The Knoxville News Sentinel 30 May 2003 LENOIR, RICHARD HUDSON - age 76, of Norris, SHAPPERT, CATHERINE CLARE - age 68, of Oak Ridge, ===================================== LENOIR, RICHARD HUDSON - age 76, of Norris, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at his residence surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. He was born December 10, 1926 in Loudon County to William G. & Helen Hudson Lenoir. He moved to Anderson County with his parents and grew up in the town of Norris. He was a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II. After he returned from the military, he began working for the Atomic Energy Commission in Record Management & Micrographics and worked with various contractors. He served on the National Bureau of Standards in Micrographics for 20 years. He was active in the National Micrographics Association and was instrumental in the development of microcard and microfiche processes. He retired from TVA in 1993. He was founder & a charter member of Norris United Methodist Church. He served on the Norris Volunteer Fire Department and City Council. His passions were fishing, woodworking and his family. Preceded in death by parents, William G. & Helen Hudson Lenoir. Survivors: wife of 53 years, Ann Cooper Lenoir of Norris; daughters, Sherrie Lenoir Hamby of Norris, Elizabeth Leuthold & husband, Duane of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Ashley Lenoir Cox & husband, Glenn of Lake City, Adam Cooper Hamby of Norris, Riley & Alex Leuthold of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Louise Childress & husband, Fred of Norris, Marie Lenoir Chandler of Nashville; brothers, Will G. Lenoir of Port Arthur, Texas, Rev. Henry L. Lenoir & wife, Betty of Knoxville; several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2003 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral service will be held 10:30 p.m., Saturday morning in the chapel of Holley-Gamble with Dr. Ronald Ingram & Rev. Henry Lenoir officiating. Interment will follow the service at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements. SHAPPERT, CATHERINE CLARE - age 68, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at her home. She was born June 10, 1934 in Baton Rouge, LA, the daughter of the late Roy E. Hyde and Elaine Lorio Hyde. Mrs. Shappert graduated valedictorian from Southeastern High School in Hammond, LA in 1952 and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College in 1956 with degrees in Biology and Physiology and a minor in English. She received her Masters in Zoology from Louisiana State University. Mrs. Shappert taught science at Lake Charles High School in Louisiana before moving to Oak Ridge in 1959 to work in the Biology Division of ORNL. She also worked as a technical editor at the lab from 1974 until 2000. Mrs. Shappert was the president of the Dance Club in Oak Ridge, president of Church Women United, secretary of the Diabetes Association at Methodist Medical Center and was a volunteer for the Oak Ridge Playhouse. She loved to write poetry, garden and she enjoyed traveling. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by: her husband of 42 years, Larry B. Shappert, Oak Ridge; mother- in-law, Louise Cowger, Oak Ridge; daughters, Susan Saliba and husband Tony of Dayton, OH and Becky Luther and husband David of Bristol; sons, Stephen Shappert and wife Rhonda of Commercial Pt. OH and Christopher Shappert and wife Kristen of Suwanee, GA; grandchildren, Joey, Justin and Alaina of Dayton, OH and Brendan, Erin and Sarah of Bristol, Julia, Anna and Maria of Commercial Pt, OH; sisters, Susan Forbes and husband Don of Norris and Carol Clark and husband Tuffy of Asheville, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:00am with Rev. Michael Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Stephen Shappert, Christopher Shappert, Tony Saliba, David Luther, Tuffy Clark and Don Forbes. The family asks that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the Make A Wish Foundation.
