FVrom The Oak Ridger 19 may 2003 Milus Skidmore, 82, of Oak Ridge, Ernest Tolbert, 77, of Oak Ridge, Danny Dale Wright, 55, of Clinton, Louise Moore, 96, of Oak Ridge, Deborah Smith, 49, of Oak Ridge, ===================================== Milus Skidmore, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at his home. Born Aug. 19, 1920, in Harlan County Kentucky, he was the son of James and Rebecca Skidmore, both now deceased. He worked on the Manhattan Project at Columbia University. He relocated to Oak Ridge in 1944 and retired from Union Carbide in 1982. At retirement he managed the 86-inch cyclotron, which produced radioactive isotopes for medicine, science and industry. He remained active with his many business interests. Mr. Skidmore had a lifetime interest in airplanes and was a commercial pilot. In 1946, he and George Flint built the airport in Oliver Springs and operated the facility and a flight school until 1964. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Lions Club for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Silas Skidmore, Robert Skidmore, Elizabeth Snodgrass, Lucretia Buell, and Dorothy Skidmore. Mr. Skidmore is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth Skidmore; three children, Milus Skidmore and wife, Lori, of Montpelier, Ind., Mary Kocak and husband, Ted, of Oak Ridge, and Dwight Skidmore of Big Pine Key, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sally Ferguson and husband, James Tolmach, of Atlanta, Ga.; and by eight grandchildren, Shelby Skidmore and Alexis Skidmore, both of Montpelier, Ted Kocak, Rebecca Kocak, Andrew Kocak and Joey Kocak, all of Oak Ridge, and Elizabeth Tolmach and Rebecca Tolmach, both of Atlanta. He is also survived by his twin brother, Reidus Skidmore and his wife, Patricia, of Vero Beach, Fla. Percy Staats and his wife Julia, Bill Harmon and his wife, Polly, all of Oak Ridge, and George Flint of Arlington, Texas, were considered special friends. A funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating. A graveside service will be Wednesday, May 21, at Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, Harlan County, Ky. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the United Church Nursery School, 85 Kentucky Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or the Oak Ridge Lions Club, P.O. Box 4085, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-4085. The family will receive friends at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Ernest Tolbert, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. Born Jan. 9, 1926, in Lexington, Miss., he was the son of John and Mattie Broome Tolbert, both now deceased. He was a resident of Oak Ridge since 1951 and attended AME Zion Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from the Oak Ridge Utility District in 1991, where he was a serviceman. Mr. Tolbert is survived by six nephews, John Tolbert and wife, Sharon, Jesse Tolbert and Willis Broyles, all of Knoxville, Jeffery Tolbert and wife, Annie, of Chattanooga, Willie Tolbert Jr. of Tullahoma and Steven McDermott of Athens; five nieces, Kim Russell, Maria Tolbert and Tamara Frith, all of Knoxville, Pamela Frith of Shelby, N.C., and Kathleen Tolbert of Pensacola, Fla.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Margaret Brownfield of Oak Ridge was considered a special friend. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to his many friends for their unwavering support and sympathy. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Darris Waters officiating. In keeping with Mr. Tolbert's wishes, the body was cremated. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 900 E. Hill Ave., Knoxville, TN 37915. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Danny Dale Wright, 55, of Clinton, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. Born April 23, 1948, in Jamestown, he was the son of O'Dell and Ollie King Wright. He was a charter member Greenway Baptist Church. He was the owner of Wright Mobile Home Movers in Crossville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Brian Miller. Mr. Wright was survived by his wife, Janice Wright; his son, Danny "Douglas" Wright and wife, Bethany, of Clinton; two granddaughters, Abby Danielle Wright and Hanna Boring; two sisters, Sharon Grace of Wartburg and Shannon Sampson and husband, Daniel, of Clinton; his father- and mother-in-law, R.B. and Sue Patterson of Oliver Springs; and five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Linda Sutton and husband, Kurt, Barbara Kennedy and husband, Sonny, Carol Keese and husband, Ron, Phyllis Trento and husband, Raphael, Patty Whedbee and husband, Rick, and Greg Patterson. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Erika, Jason, Heather, Chris, Scott, Ashlee, Bradford, Chad, Breanna, Amy, Justin and Michael Shane Grace, who the family considers special; and by five grandnieces and grandnephews and other relatives including a special cousin, Roger and Kathy King. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Darrell Griffis officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Greenway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Louise Moore, 96, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete at press time. Deborah Smith, 49, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
