Seiber, 83, a resident of the Frost Bottom Frederick August Scheer Jr., 86, Mary Louise "Betsey" Burkhart Hutton, 83, of Kingston, James Taylor Barker, 77, of Oak Ridge ==================================== Louise Curd Capshaw, 72, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at her home. Born April 18, 1931, in Oliver Springs, she was the daughter of Skiley Curd Sr. and Willie Mae Young Curd, both now deceased. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Curd, and her sister, Alberta Curd Frazier. She married James Capshaw in 1950, and they remained in Oliver Springs until 1957, when they moved to Oak Ridge. She worked as a nanny and housekeeper at the Goswitz-Vodopick home in Oak Ridge for 28 years and was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Capshaw is survived by her son, Rondal Lee Capshaw and his wife, Katrina, of Knoxville; two daughters, Janice Capshaw Vines and her husband, Charlie Vines Jr. and Denise Capshaw and her fiancé, Chris Gaines, all of Oak Ridge; three brothers, Joe Lewis Curd and Skiley Curd Jr., both of Oliver Springs, and the Rev. Benjamin Curd of Morristown; a sister, Lena Mae Curd of Oliver Springs; two aunts, Mildred Harrison of Clinton and Lida Montgomery of Oliver Springs; and by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mary Apple, JoAnn Baker, Helen Land and Irene Timmons are considered special friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. T. L. Mims officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements. Emma Ruth Buck, 78, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Windwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. Born on May 16, 1924, in Jellico, she was the daughter of Albert and Bertha Douglas Bell, both now deceased. She was a member of the Church of God Mountain Assembly as a child. She was a homemaker, seamstress, and cook who the family says enjoyed the gardening of vegetables and flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oran Clarence Buck, Nov. 23, 2001. Mrs. Buck is survived by four sons, Oran Buck Jr. and wife, Donna, of Miami, Fla., Albert Buck of St. Marie's, Idaho, Ronnie Buck and wife, Kim, of Knoxville, and Steve Buck and wife, Angie, of Oak Ridge; one sister, Mary Williams and husband, Harrison, of Oak Ridge; nine grandchildren, Chris Buck, Brian Buck and Stacey Buck of Miami, Fla., Nikki Buck of St. Marie's, Aaron Buck and Adrienne Buck of Knoxville, Shane Wiseman and Amy Wiseman of Oak Ridge and Theresa Wiseman of Nashville; and one great-grandchild, Dae McCoy, of Nashville. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Jerome Walden officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at the Douglas Cemetery in Jellico. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. Seiber, 83, a resident of the Frost Bottom community of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at her home. Born Oct. 12, 1919, in Shea, she was the daughter of Richard Kennedy and Ida Belle Byrge Kennedy, both now deceased. She was the widow of Lee V. Seiber. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Clifford Edward Seiber and Clarence Everett Seiber, two brothers, Matt Kennedy and Hoye Kennedy, and a granddaughter, Halie Marie Seiber. The late Mary "Babe" Edwards was considered as a special lifelong friend. Mrs. Seiber lived in the Frost Bottom community since 1939. She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendly Welcome Missionary Baptist Church. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, quilting and cooking for family and friends. She is survived by four daughters, Bobbie J. Phillips and Linda Lively and husband, Homer, all of Oliver Springs, Brenda West and husband, James, of Rockwood, and Lisa Gail Lively and husband, Fred, of Briceville; six sons, Robert Leon Seiber and wife, Janice, who she considered a daughter, and Lester Seiber, all of Oliver Springs, Hubert Seiber and wife, Thelma, of Wartburg, and Larry Seiber, Gary Seiber and Eddie Seiber and wife, Angi, all of Oak Ridge; three brothers, James Kennedy of Kingston, Luther Kennedy of Oliver Springs, and Lorance Kennedy of Lake City; three half-brothers, Steve Kennedy of Devonia, Golman Kennedy of Lake City and Harlan Kennedy of Ohio; two half-sisters, Aileene Black of Florida and Jane Brown of LaFollette; two aunts, Nellie Phillips and Lannie Duncan, both of Dutch Valley; and by 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mellie Bunch of Oliver Springs and Ruby Kennedy of Devonia were considered special friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Mark Bass officiating. The burial will follow at Frost Bottom Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the funeral home. Frederick August Scheer Jr., 86, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville. Born February 19, 1917, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the first child of Frederick August Scheer Sr. and Marie Delhougne Scheer, both now deceased. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, and his brother, Robert. Mr. Scheer graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1938 with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., first in the paper mill and then at the glass plant, until his retirement in 1973. In 1978, he and his wife moved to Claxton to be near their first grandson, Carl Frederick Salk. The family said Mr. Scheer was an avid gardener who grew beautiful roses and luscious blackberries, and he planted a yard full of now stately trees in Claxton. Prior to his wife's death, they enjoyed traveling and toured many parts of the United States and the rest of the world. Until the onset of dementia, the family said he had a photographic memory and the ability to perform complex mental calculations at stunning speeds. As his dementia robbed him of his past and his extreme intellectual gifts, he settled into an endless present, but remained the decent, hardworking man he had always been, his family said. In addition to his grandson, Carl Salk, Mr. Scheer is survived by his daughter, Martha "Marti" Scheer Salk and husband, Gary, of Oak Ridge; his son, Jon Frederic Scheer and wife, Teva, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and three other grandchildren, Theodore "Ted" Thomas Salk of Oak Ridge, and Charles Frederick Scheer and Catherine Lepay Scheer, both of Highlands Ranch. A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The family requests that no flowers be sent and suggests that people who knew him remember Mr. Scheer by performing anonymous acts of kindness. The family request that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 10088, Knoxville, TN 37939-9910. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mary Louise "Betsey" Burkhart Hutton, 83, of Kingston, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the home of her son, Philip Hutton, in Louisville. Mrs. Hutton had lived with her son and his family since the fall of 2001. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harriman, and her family said her quiet, gentle and loving spirit was a blessing to everyone whose life she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Charles Hutton, and two sons, Michael Fred Hutton and James Lewis Hutton. In addition to her son, Philip, and his wife, Diane Glass Hutton, Mrs. Hutton is survived by four other sons, Gerald Hutton and John Thomas Hutton and his wife, Catharine Asmah Hutton, all of Oak Ridge, Anthony Charles Hutton and his wife, Judy McNamer Hutton, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Robert Edward Hutton and his wife, Patricia, of Knoxville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Naomi Louise Ajiku Hutton Hickerson and her husband, Shawn, Rebekah Jane Odamea Hutton, Susanna Betty Anakwa Hutton, Carla Noel Hutton and her husband, David Faris, Zachary Michael Hutton, Zoe Elaine Hutton, Robert Edward Hutton II, Jacob Eli Hutton, John William Hutton, James Louis Hutton and Charles Edward Hutton; and by her great-grandson, Preston Alexander Hickerson. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Kingston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. James Taylor Barker, 77, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at his home.
