    2. >From The Knoxville News Sentinel 21 May 2003 HEADDEN, WALTER YOUNG - age 67 of Oakdale, was called home to heaven on Monday, May 19, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents L.G. Headden, Sr. and Artas Phillips Headden. He was a member of Oakdale First Baptist Church and worked for Norfolk Southern Railway for nearly 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps where he served during the Korean Conflict era. Mr. Headden served as an Alderman for the City of Oakdale for nearly 20 years. He will be most remembered for his volunteer work with the Oakdale Little League Baseball and football programs for many years. He not only coached a multitude of players, but he also worked countless hours maintaining the fields, equipment, and other aspects of the programs. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean Pogue Headden and five children: Traci (Kerri) Brown of Daphne, Alabama, Regina Headden of Oakdale, Tammi Coffey of Harriman, Melissa Coley (Frank) of Harriman, Matt Headden of Oliver Springs. He is also survived by seven granddaughters and one grandson: Jessica and Samantha Coffey, Christy, Caitlin, and Cassie Brown, and Paige, Jenna and Wyatt Coley; brothers and sisters, Bob Phillips of Los Alamos, New Mexico, L.G. Headden, Jr. of Oakdale, James (John) Headden of Harrison, George Headden of Oakdale, Maude Townsend of Harriman, and Rachel Headden of Oakdale and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 22, 2003 from 4-7 p.m. at Oakdale First Baptist Church with a memorial service to immediately follow with Rev. Bill Young officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial scholarship fund in his name to be given to a graduating athlete of Oakdale School.
