Read about it on our webpage at: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/westdna/ Two of our WEST cousins had a paper trail to Maryland pre-1800, but had not established a definite relationship. The DNA test provides the proof that they share a common ancestor. Probably George WEST who died in 1760, leaving a will that named 9 children. This family is mentioned in "The West Family Register" by L.B. Stone on page 398 if you have access to that. The two DNA samples from descendents of George WEST both have a VERY rare mutation on one of the genetic markers, reinforcing our conclusion that they are related. I have added a link on the FAQ page of the website to photos of a person collecting his DNA sample, if you want to see how easy it is. Comments, suggestions, questions, and new DNA testees welcome.
