    2. >From The Knoxville News Sentinel 28 May 2003 FITZWATER, VIRGIL - age 90, of LaFollette, LANIER, ALMA JO GAVIT - age 54, of formerly of Anderson County, THOMPSON, EWELL SMITH, Oak Ridge ===================================== FITZWATER, VIRGIL - age 90, of LaFollette, passed away late Friday evening, May 23, 2003, at his home. He retired as a Final Adjuster from National Cash Register Corporation. A member of the Fundamental Missionary Baptist Church, LaFollette. Preceded in death by parents, Franklin Monroe and Telitha Rhodes Fitzwater; sister, Virgie Fitzwater Croikshank; brothers, Hoy, Bob, Ben and Howard Fitzwater. Survivors: wife, Louise Hicks Fitzwater of LaFollette; daughters, Lois Fitzwater and husband, Forrest Miller of Payson, Arizona, and Shirley Hicks Dillmon of LaFollette; son, Gail and wife, Virginia Fitzwater, Indianapolis, Ind. and son, Gene Hicks and wife, Marie, Gladwin, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren. Funeral service Monday, May 26, 7:30 p.m. at Fundamental Missionary Baptist Church, LaFollette, Rev. Larry Russell officiating. Interment Tuesday 11 a.m., Valley View Cemetery, Elk Valley. The family will receive friends Monday, May 26, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., prior to service. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home. LANIER, ALMA JO GAVIT - age 54, of Arlington, Tennessee, formerly of Anderson County, passed away Monday, May 26, 2003 at the Methodist North Medical Center in Memphis. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements. THOMPSON, EWELL SMITH - died at his home in Oak Ridge on May 27, 2003. Born on December 6, 1919 he was the youngest of five children of the late Dr. M.E. Thompson and Etta Boshears Thompson of Oneida, Tenn. A member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, he was also a member of the American Legion and the B.P.O.E. After attending the University of Tennessee, Mr. Thompson served as an officer in the United States Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in England, Belgium and Germany. Following the war he and his wife, Clarice moved to Oak Ridge where he worked for Union Carbide until his retirement in 1980 as manager of the telephone communications department. He was one of the founding members of the K-25 Credit Union in Oak Ride and served as its treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clarice Evans Thompson; two daughters and sons in law, Anne and Stephen Parker of Atlanta, Ga. and Jane and Fred Bolton of Los Alamos, NM; and six grandchildren, Ellen Elizabeth Parker, Boston, Mass., David Ewell Parker, Boulder, Colo., Sarah Webb Parker, Atlanta, Ga. and Laura Elizabeth Bolton, Caroline Anne Bolton and Evan Fredric Bolton of Los Alamos, NM. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends that evening from 6-8 p.m. in the parlor of First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. Memorials may be made to the Discretionary Fund of the First United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, Tenn. Or the charity of choice.
