Hensley Parker, 89, ========================================= >From The Oak Ridger 5 Dec 2003 Ella Gray Guttery, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 4, 1917, in Church Hill, she was the daughter of Edley Patterson Gray and Sallie Lou Marsh Gray. Mrs. Guttery worked as a civilian during the war effort at Holston Ordinance in Kingsport. At the end of the war, she came to Oak Ridge and worked at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant as a chemical operator. On Dec. 23, 1946, she married Fredwin "Fred" B. Guttery, now deceased, and concentrated on raising a family. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. According to her family, Mrs. Guttery was an avid collector of teddy bears. Her family said she was also an accomplished artist, and she had written her memoirs and passed them on to her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, who died May 10, 2000, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters and an adult sister, Gladys Trent. Mrs. Guttery is survived by two sons, John Morris Guttery and wife, Gale, of Powell and L.C. Parker of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Barbara Parker Crowder and husband, Ed, of Clinton and Patti Guttery Atkinson of Oak Ridge; a brother, Sevier Gray and wife, June, of Kingsport; and by three sisters, Doris Hicks and husband, Lloyd, of Kingsport, Juanita Burchfield of Greenville, Ga., and Ruth Winegar of Riverdale, Ga. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Keith Parker and wife, Linda, Roger Parker and wife, Sonya, and Shawn Atkinson and wife, Candi, all of Oak Ridge, Jean Parker and Ed Crowder Jr. and wife, Kimberly, all of Clinton, Leon Parker Jr. and wife, Pat, of Woodstock, Ga., Don Parker of Manassas, Va., and Larry Parker and wife, Melanie, of Chesapeake, Va.; and by 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her family said she will be remembered by her spiritual friends at Trinity United Methodist Church, Mildred Harris and Gladys Beason. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Aldana Allen officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Gail Young, 56, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Dec. 30, 1946, in Memphis, she was the daughter of Melvin S. and Ouida Mayo Smith of Stantonville. Mrs. Young was the founder of A & Y Cleaning Services, from which she retired. She was a member of Faith Promise Church and leader of the church prayer chain. Her family said she loved sports, both as a spectator and a participant. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Young is survived by her husband, Gregory C. Young; two daughters, Donna Adams and husband, Brian, of Chattanooga and Christine Beavers and husband, Will, of Oak Ridge; three grandchildren, William Alan Beavers and Sara Nicole Beavers, both of Oak Ridge, and Ashley Adams of Chattanooga; her mother-in-law, Beatrice Young, of Oak Ridge; and by her sister-in-law, Jackie Young, of Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Faith Promise Church with the Rev. Dr. Chris Stephens officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Building Fund of Faith Promise Church, 10740 Faith Promise Lane, Knoxville, TN 37931. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Vera Elizabeth Rozelle Miceli, 88, of Norris, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003. She was born July 31, 1915. Mrs. Miceli taught chemistry at Marygrove College in Detroit, Mich. During World War II she served as first lieutenant in the American Red Cross. She taught at various Catholic elementary schools and high schools in New Haven, Ind., and Detroit. For 17 years, she was in girl scouting as a troop leader and neighborhood chair. She was also active in church activities including Parish Life, MLF, RCIA and she served as a Eucharistic minister. She held positions on the Board of Crazy Quilt Friendship Center in Newcomb, and served as president of the Norris Woman's Club. She also supported many other humanitarian causes through various organizations and for many individuals. According to her family, Mrs. Miceli was an inspiration to her family and friends, and she loved beautiful things such as art, music, literature, nature and the love of people. Mrs. Miceli is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Angelo S. Miceli; and by five children, Dr. Anthony "Bud" Miceli and wife, Cheryl, of Fowlerville, Mich., Dr. Mary R. Knepper and husband, Jay, of Naperville, Ill., George M. Miceli and wife, Susan, of Troy, Mich., and Virginia A. Miceli and husband, Brian Moore, and Martha M. Forbes and husband, Steven, all of Norris. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Bradley Knepper and Claire Knepper, both of Denver, Colo., Jennifer Miceli of Lansing, Mich., Michael Miceli of Norris, Melody Moore and Patrick Moore, both of Marietta, Ga., and Daniel Forbes, Rachel Forbes, Rebecca Forbes, Kathryn Forbes and Helen Moore, all of Norris; a great-grandchild, Eva Knepper, of Denver; and by several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her family said she will be remembered by many friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Andersonville with the Rev. Gerard Finucane officiating. Burial will follow at Norris Memorial Garden. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to City of Norris for the Lion's Club Pavilion. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. William Seneca Aud Jr., 76, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at St. Mary's Health System in Knoxville. Born June 5, 1927, in Herndon, Va., he was the son of William Seneca Aud Sr. and Eleanor Aud. Mr. Aud was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, where he taught the adult men's Sunday school class. He was an Army corporal veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, where he was the director of congressional liaisons for the house of representatives. After retiring and moving to the Knoxville area, Mr. Aud became president of the Oak Ridge Country Club, where his family said he was an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Mullins, and by a brother, Michael Larkin. Mr. Aud is survived by his wife, Betty Cox Aud; his daughter, Susan Jahn, of Hilo, Hawaii; two sisters, Elizabeth Lamson and husband, William, of Roanoke, Va., and Julia Schworm and husband, Richard, of Marrion, Mass.; three sisters-in-law, Micky Fox and husband, Lester, Jean Aloi and husband, Tony, and Brenda Letner, all of Clinton; three brothers-in-law, Jake Cox and wife, Sandy, and Billy George "Babe" Cox, all of Lake City, and Roger Cox and wife, Shirley, of Clinton; two grandsons, Brian Jahn and Bradley Jahn, both of Riverside, Calif.; and by several nieces and nephews. Guy and Shirley Grove of Front Royal, Va., are considered special friends. A memorial service was Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Thomas Sweet officiating. Burial was Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Leach Cemetery in Lake City. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church Family Life Center, 225 Old Clinton Pike, Knoxville, TN 37921. Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City was in charge of arrangements. Harold Taylor, 81, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Mr. Taylor was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He lived with the McBee family in Karns, where he cared for his aunt, Anna May McBee, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family said he had a very loving and giving spirit and will be missed greatly by all who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Taylor and Cora Raby Taylor; five brothers, Tolbert, Hubert, Clyde, Leonard and Lloyd; and by two sisters, Louise Fox and Nell Key. Mr. Taylor is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. His family said he will be remembered by many friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. J.D. Stooksbury officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Lynch Bethel Cemetery. Freddie Meredith, William Kelly, Tyler McBee, Mike Fryar, David Graham, Donald Daniels and Bill Bolinger will serve as pallbearers. The family has requested that any memorials be in the form of donations to Trinity Baptist Church, 7604 Blacks Ferry Rd., Knoxville, TN 37931-1107. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Josie M. Hensley Parker, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in Akron, Ohio. Born in Calfkiller, she lived in Crossville from 1930 to 1953 when she moved to Akron. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William J. Parker, in 1993, and by two granddaughters, Mary Ryan Jenkins and Brenda Hammond Burton. Mrs. Parker is survived by two daughters, Billie Ryan and husband, Ernest, of Andersonville and a former Oak Ridge resident for 35 years, and Beatrice Hammond and husband, Bernie, of Akron; her son, Walter L. Parker and wife, Eileen, of Warner Robins, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth McBee of Knoxville, Larry Ryan of Claxton, Rob Ryan of Powell, Jeffrey Hammond, Bernie Hammond, Teresa Marshall and Rose Spore, all of Akron, Krista Hammond of Bonifay, Fla., Kevin Parker and Eric Parker, both of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, and Laura Abbott of Macon, Ga.; and by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
