Starritt, 81, Jacksboro, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church and Veteran of the World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Opal Helms Starritt; three brothers, L.B. Starritt, Marshall and George Teague. Mr. Starritt is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois Berry Starritt, Jacksboro; son, James D. Starritt, Dallas, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky L. and Marcia Starritt, Dayton, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Leonard Franklin, Caryville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Christine Berry, Bakersfield, CA, Jerry Slusher, Grays Knob, KY; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Sunday, July 27 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Arnold officiating. Interment was Monday, July 28 in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard. The family received friends Sunday before the funeral services. Sudie Slusher, 95, Jacksboro, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Lake City Health Care Center. She was of the Church of God faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Slusher; son, Archie Messer; daughter and son-in-law, Zelma and Rev. Arthur Ward; parents Gorden and Rachel Swanson Gambrel; three sisters and three brothers. Sudie is survived by a daughter, Kitty Loncar, Beaver Falls, PA; grandchildren, Faye Falls, Knoxville, Irene Willocks, Strawberry Plains; Arvil, Arthur Jr. and Claude Ward, LaFollette, Gary and Terry Ward, Jacksboro; 18 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Friday, July 25, in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Ayers officiating. Interment was Saturday, July 26 in Campbell Memorial Gardens. Meredith, 71, Beavercreek, OH, formerly of LaFollette, died Monday, July 21, 2003. Clyde served his country in the Korean War, and retired from General Motors after 30 years to spend more time with his family. He enjoyed cooking and helping around the house, traveling, and spoiling this grandkids. Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia (Cunagin) Meredith; children, Dana (and Karen) Meredith, Tracy (and Jim) Parnell; granddaughter, Meredith; grandsons, Cody and Cole; brothers, Homer (and Wilma), James (and Azalee) and Charles Vennis (and Bonnie) Meredith. Funeral services were Saturday, July 26 at Tobias Funeral Home; Beavercreek, OH with Rev. Walter Davis officiating. Visitation was Friday, July 25 also at the funeral home. Maggie Ellen McGill, 66, LaFollette, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boone C. and Lassie Thomas Frazier; sister, Audrey Lay Phillips. Maggie is survived by her husband, Ben Ray McGill, LaFollette; brother, Eddie Frazier, Morley; sister, Bonnie Bailey, LaFollette; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Saturday, July 26 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Bo Bolton officiating. Interment was Sunday, July 27 in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family received friends before the services on Saturday. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Sampson "Sonny" McGhee, 53, Caryville, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at U.T. Medical Center, Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sampson McGhee Jr. and Katie B. McGhee and an infant brother. Sampson is survived by his wife, Cindy McGhee, Caryville; daughter, Amy McGhee Estes and husband Chad and grandson, Chase Estes, Lenoir city; daughter, Sunny Lynn McGhee of LaFollette; son Mickey McGhee, Gatlinburg, many close relatives and friends. A special thanks to the Wilson family for all their love and support to the family during this time of need. You will always be remembered for all you've done. Memorial services were Thursday, July 24 at Walters Chapel with Rev. Ray Graham officiating with visitation following the service. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the services. Kenneth "LeeBo" Lee, 70, Lawton, died, Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Lawton. He was born on December 25, 1932 in Rockwood to Sam and Ada Kirkland Lee. He joined the United States Army in 1950 and served in the Vietnam War. He retired from the military in the 70's. He was a member of the Mountain Scout Masonic Lodge 540 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Shriners Clown Troop as "LeeBo" the Clown and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Commanders Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Rebecca Lee. He is survived by a brother, Donald Lee and his wife, Gloria; sister, Frances Hedgecoth, all of LaFollette; special niece Angie Wright and her husband, Gordon; special nephew, Jeffrey, both of LaFollette, great nieces and nephews. Graveside services were Saturday, July 19 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with full military honors. Mary Chadwell Johnson, 82, Jacksboro, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and very involved in WMU. Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated schoolteacher for 38 years in Campbell County and Michigan school systems. She was a member of the retired schoolteachers and the Eastern Star. She was also the first member of the Pink Ladies and had been an active member of the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in by her parents, Duff and Stacy Ayers Chadwell; one sister, Nannie Gibson and six brothers, Henry, Lewis, Willie, Duffy, Woodrow, and Charles Chadwell. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charlie A. Johnson, Jacksboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Renee Johnson, Athens, Dallas E. and Sandra L. Johnson, Jacksboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen J. and David Hall, LaFollette, Nancy J. and David Rutherford, Caryville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Gibson, OH; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Sunday, July 27 at the Cedar Hill Baptist Church with Reverends Ralph Leach, Ronnie Arnold and Brother Marshall Rasnake officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Kathleen (Katie) Sims Diamond, 82, Columbus, OH, formerly of LaFollette, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. She was a member of the Beechwold Christian Church and a retired seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Diamond; son, Mark Donald Sims. Kathleen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Linda Sims, Joplin, MO, James and Donna, Heise, TX; grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan and Jennifer; very dear friend, Don Gay, Columbus, OH and several other relatives and friends. Ruth Cook, 76, LaFollette, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at her home. She was a member of Grantsboro Baptist Church. Mrs. Cook was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to a very special person, Jennie Carroll who showed love and kindness. Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Stanley Wallace; parents, Paris and Maggie Grant Cooper; brothers, Kermit and Roscoe Cooper; sister, Phyllis Landrum. Teresa "Lone Star" Surber, 50, Williamsburg, KY, died July 27, 2003 at her home. She belonged to a C.B. Club and was known as "Tennessee Squaw" She is preceded in death by her daughter, Angel; grandson, Little Rickie; granddaughter, Hanna; father, Theodore Surber; brother-in-law, Ralph (June Bug) King. Teresa is survived by her husband, George Lay, three sons, Ricky Lee Ramey and wife Kim, Jimmy Lee Ramey and wife Nettie, Billy Eugene Ramey and wife Heather; two daughters, Regeana Darlene Garrett, Bobby Jean Belcher and husband Scott; 17 grandchildren; mother, Norma Gene Imhoff; two brothers, Ted Surber, Manual Imhof; three sisters, Connie Jean King, Vera Imhoff, Merna Mullins. Funeral services were Monday, July 28 at Harp Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Carpenter officiating. Burial was Tuesday, July 29 at the Surber family cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. James William Chambers, 70, Taylor MI, formerly of Jellico died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at his residence in Michigan. He was born January 14, 1933 in Jellico, the son of the late William and Flossie Wortham Chambers. He was retired from General Motors. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louise Bales. James is survived by his wife, Marjorie Adams Chamber, Taylor, MI; five children, Vivian Rene Chamber, Belville, MI, Patricia Snowden, Bellair, OH, Gary E. Chambers, Taylor, MI, Allen Lynn Chambers, Melvendale, MI, Misty Sands, Taylor, MI; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; niece and four nephews, Nina Siler, "Peanut" Ketchern, Eddie Leforce and Cecil LeForce, all of Jellico. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 29 at the Cox and Son Chapel with Rev. Ellis Hoskins officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Cemetery.
