>From The Oak Ridger 29 Aug 2003 Ruth Farkas Goldman, 77, of Oak Ridge, Robert Austin Duncan, 66, of Clinton, Aziz Arthur Philip Jallouk, 94, Carolyn Jones Williams, 60, of Signal Mountain, Robert James Rogers, 92, Kansas City, Mo., Frances Wilma Mercer Alvey, 78, of Aiken, S.C. ============================================ Ruth Farkas Goldman, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born June 2, 1926, in New York City, she was the daughter of Frank and Rebecca Farkas of Erie, Pa. Mrs. Goldman was a volunteer with Planned Parenthood, the League of Women Voters, the Democratic Party and Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. According to her family, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Allan, especially to Zimbabwe, Thailand and Sri Lanka, as part of the International Executive Service Corps. The couple was married March 28, 1948. She was a member of the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Goldman is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Goldman of Dover, N.H., Lynn Goldman of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lisa Goldman Perret of Angers, France; a son, Mark Goldman of London, England; five grandchildren, Gabriel Clary and Jacob Clary, both of Dover, Anouchka Goldman and Julius Goldman, both of London, and Edith Perret of Angers; two sisters, Esther Clair of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Gloria Stein of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and by a brother, Milton Farkas of Thousand Oaks. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the National Kidney Foundation, 4450 Walker Blvd., Suite 2, Knoxville, TN 37917-1523. Robert Austin Duncan, 66, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Born June 8, 1937, in Caryville, he was the son of Richard Duncan and Rosa Ann Shubert Duncan, both now deceased. Mr. Duncan was a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill William Duncan, and a sister, Pauline Steed. Mr. Duncan is survived by three daughters, Elaine Davis and husband, Mitchell, Wanda Ray, and Barbara Duncan and David Fox, all of Clinton; a son, Robert Ray and wife, Betsy, of Clinton; his stepfather, Herbert Cleveland of the Marlow community; a brother, Paul Duncan of the Marlow community; five grandchildren, David Fox Jr., Rebecca Fox, Jennifer Fox, Melissa Davis and Mitchell Davis Jr., all of Clinton; and by a great-grandson, Eric Ellis Jr. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Kenneth Bean and the Rev. Luke Kidwell officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Aziz Arthur Philip Jallouk, 94, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in Oak Ridge. Born Feb. 13, 1909, in Jerusalem, Palestine, he was the son of Philip and Helen Jallouk, both now deceased. As a young man, he was employed by the Jerusalem Electric Co. He married Rose Haddad on July 20, 1944. Mr. Jallouk and his family immigrated to the United States in August of 1956 and settled in New York City, where he was employed by Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1974, he and his wife retired to Coral Gables, Fla. He moved to Oak Ridge in 2001 to be near his son and family. According to his family, he enjoyed reading and watching sports. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years in 1999. Mr. Jallouk is survived by a son, Philip Jallouk and wife, Nahida Qumri Jallouk; and by three grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew and Heidi, all of Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Dr. Stephen G. Damos of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Carolyn Jones Williams, 60, of Signal Mountain, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003. Born June 12, 1943, in Fontana, N.C., and raised in Seymour, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lenneth Lysle Jones, both now deceased. Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, James Lewis Williams; four daughters, Lynnette Nance Alston and husband, Michael, Leslie Nance Thomas, Debbie Williams Garvich and husband, Jon, and Becky Williams Conner and husband, David, all of Signal Mountain; and by five grandchildren, Anna Malone Alston, John Hollingsworth Alston, Mary Abigail Alston, Tenley Garvich and Mack Conner. She is also survived by two sisters, Mona Jones Leake of Oak Ridge, and Patricia Jones Raines and husband, Dennis, of Maryville; and by five nieces and nephews, Sherry Leake Donald and husband, Dale, of Knoxville, Cindy Leake Weatherly, Todd Raines, Drew Raines and Elizabeth Raines, and their families. The funeral was to be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in the main sanctuary of Red Bank Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Burial was to follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Michael Alston, Steve Dunn, Dennis Raines, Todd Raines, Drew Raines, Dale Donald, Blake Donald and Jim Weatherly serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include the members of the Hall Sunday school class. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Carolyn J. Robert James Rogers, 92, of northeast Kansas City, Mo., where he lived until 2002, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Oak Ridge. Mr. Rogers graduated from East High School and Finley Engineering College. He retired from the Kansas City Power and Light where he worked as a journeyman meter tester for 44 years. He served five years in the Navy during World War II as a lieutenant junior grade and retired from the Naval Reserves after 22 years of service. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Retired Officers Association. He served as a deacon and chairman of the board of deacons at the Bales Baptist Church. He was a part-time farmer in Johnson County, Mo., for about 30 years. Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Bettye Rogers, currently living in Oak Ridge; his daughter, Kara Jean Porter and husband, John Hawthorne, of Oak Ridge; two grandsons, Sean Porter of Dallas, Texas, and Craig Porter of Arlington, Texas; a granddaughter, Kara Elizabeth Doman of Dallas, Texas; and by four great-grandchildren, Hannah Porter, Luke Porter, Madeline Porter and Kathryn Porter. A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. Larry Dipboye and the Rev. Dr. Carolyn Dipboye of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge officiating Frances Wilma Mercer Alvey, 78, of Aiken, S.C., died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
