She was a member of Longfield Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Bailey; parents, W.C. and Maggie Vandergriff; brothers, Earl, M.T., Ralph and Clyde Vandergriff; sisters, Martha Ann Moore, Willie Williams, Grace Patty and Ethel Long. Survivors: son and daughter-in- law, Rick and Polly Bailey of Lake City; daughters and sons- in-law, Robin and Jack Johnson of Lake City and Melissa Gaye and Ron Smith of Kingston, TN; grandchildren, Brandon Gibson and Amanda Bailey; step-grandchild, Jason Smith; a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to caregivers, Athelee Brittle and Brenda Caldwell. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at Hatmaker Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003 in Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Seiber and Rev. David Walker officiating. Interment will be 12:00 noon Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Briceville, TN. Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements. BAIRD, STERLING - age 69, of Jellico, Tenn., passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003, at the home of his daughter in Jellico. He was born March 26, 1934, at Capuchin, Tenn. He was a long time supermarket and restaurant owner and operator in Jellico; a very devoted member and deacon of First Baptist Church; a member of Jellico Chapter #527 F&AM; a past mayor of Jellico, and member of several civic organizations. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Ella Blankenship Baird; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick Creekmore, Sr. and Elizabeth Creekmore. Survived by loving wife, Jessie Lee Creekmore Baird of Jellico; son, Gregory Baird of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Mike Ward of Jellico; brothers, J.C. Baird and wife, Wilma of Jellico, Millard Baird and wife, Bobbie of Clinton, Tenn.; sisters, Grace Sexton and Lola Bridges, both of Jellico, Tenn.; brother-in- law, Dick Creekmore and wife, Helen of Jellico; sister-in- law, Lynn Cox and husband, Robert of Jellico, and several nieces, nephews. and other relatives. Funeral services were at 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2003, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chuck Summers and Rev. Trent Stewart officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Jellico Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church Building Fund, Jellico, TN 37762.
