Stroud, 78, of Oak Ridge, Lillie Belle Brown, 94, a resident of Briarcliff Health Care Center, died Tuesday, Oak Ridge. Wayne Randolph McClellan, 75, of Mooresville, N.C., James Bradford Vannoy, 59, Jeanne Wayne Cornetto, 81, of Washington, Pa. ============================================ Mary Lois Dowdell, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born May 23, 1928, in Auburn, Ala., she was the daughter of Percy Lee Aldridge and Eula Mae Woodson Aldridge, both now deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Valley Baptist Church. Her family said she enjoyed working puzzles and growing flowers. Mrs. Dowdell is survived by her husband, Linsey Dowdell; a son, Larry L. Dowdell and wife, Diana, of Oak Ridge; three daughters, Gloria Dowdell and Monita Dowdell, both of Oak Ridge, and Joyce Davis and husband, Melvin, of Oliver Springs; five brothers, Cecil Aldridge and wife, Kate, and Willie Aldridge and wife, Nellie, all of Auburn, and David Aldridge, James Aldridge and wife, Jo Ann, and Sylvester Aldridge and wife, Berline, all of Opelika, Fla.; and by five sisters, Clara Buchannon, Katherine Jackson and husband, Richard, and Alleane Reese and husband, Willie, all of Auburn, Alice Bryant of Opelika, Ala., and Marion Aldridge of Westbury, N.Y. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tammy Dowdell, Larry Dowdell Jr., Rahshaad Dowdell, Alexis Dowdell, Quinche Dowdell and Kenda Dowdell, all of Oak Ridge; one great-granddaughter, Mykia Dowdell of Oak Ridge; two brothers-in-law, George Dowdell and wife, Janie, of Akron, Ohio, and Leamon Dowdell and wife, Phoebe, of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Mary Threat, Martha Golden and Willie Pearl Faison and her husband, Willie; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Minnie Threat and Kattie Strickland, both of Oak Ridge, are considered special friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Oak Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Hardil Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Dan D. Stroud, 78, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 3, 1925, in Lyman, S.C., he was the son of Luther T. and Ruth J. Stroud, both now deceased. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Stroud was a member of First United Methodist Church and his family said he was a devoted husband and father. He retired from the Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, where he was superintendent of the maintenance department. Mr. Stroud is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myra Hopkins Stroud; two daughters, Judy Stroud and Janet Stroud; and by a sister, Hazel Bolin and husband, Brunson, of Atlanta, Ga. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church Youth Choir, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Weatherford Mortuary. Lillie Belle Brown, 94, a resident of Briarcliff Health Care Center, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born July 15, 1909, in Smith County, Texas, she was the daughter of Paul and Grace Church Bell Bruce, both now deceased. Mrs. Brown ran the Belle Brown Kindergarten in Chattanooga for many years and was a member of Brainerd Methodist Church. She lived in Fairfield Glade for 20 years before coming to Oak Ridge to live with her daughter. While in Fairfield Glade, her family said she stayed very active in the various clubs and organizations there. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother; two sisters; a son, John Paul Brown; and by her husband, Carl Glenn Brown, who died in 1977. Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Ralph "Happy" Brown of Gurley, Ala.; a daughter, Bettye B. Wilson, a kindergarten teacher in Oak Ridge for many years, and husband, Dr. Nathan E. Wilson, of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren, Nathan Wilson Jr. and wife, Toya, of King George, Va., Cindy Warner and husband, Gordon Warner Jr., of Smyrna, Gwynne Carey and husband, Joe Carey, of Karns, Kevin Wilson and wife, Regina, of Oak Ridge, Kimberly Kokesk and husband, Jerry Kokesh, of Apopka, Fla., and Mike Brown and wife, Anneva, of Marianna, Fla., and by Kimberly and Mike's mother, Jan Berry, of Florida. She is also nine great-grandchildren, Brenton Warner and Barrett Warner of Smyrna, Chad Carey and Kayla Carey of Karns, Andrei Wilson of King George, Va., Seth, Orion and Chase Wilson of Oak Ridge and Michael Scott Brown of Florida. A private memorial service will be Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating. The burial will also be private. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of donations to First United Methodist Church, First Steps Child Development Center, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Wayne Randolph McClellan, 75, of Mooresville, N.C., died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville. Born Aug. 4, 1928, in Gate City, Va., he was the son of Walter and Monnie Vermillion McClellan, both now deceased. Mr. McClellan served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1947 to 1952 in the Mediterranean during World War II and in the Korean conflict. He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant after 35 years as a supervisor in the metal fabrication division. According to his family, Mr. McClellan truly enjoyed his work and received numerous awards and commendations. He also worked for Pathway Bellows. His family said he enjoyed yardwork, reading, traveling, horse racing, tinkering with tools and repair work for family and friends. According to his family he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Campbell. Mr. McClellan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Lehman McClellan; a daughter, Jennifer Warren and husband, Stephen, of Mooresville; a son, Tom McClellan and wife, Rebekah, of Cleveland; and by two brothers, Richard McClellan and Octor McClellan, both of Kingsport. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Robert McClellan of Chattanooga, Candice Reed of Nashville, Kyle Warren a student at Appalachian State University, and Rachel Warren of Mooresville; several nieces and nephews; and by a sister-in-law, Norma. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville with the Rev. Ike Kennerly officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the charity of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. James Bradford Vannoy, 59, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 20, 1944, in Claiborne County, he was the son of Irene Vannoy Graham of Gainsville, Va., and James H. Vannoy, now deceased. Mr. Vannoy was a member of Island Home Baptist Church and was a graduate of Powell Valley High School. He was on the board of directors for the Anderson County Co-Op and the Anderson County Soil Conservation Board. He had worked for 30 years as a dairy farmer and in later years, he boarded horses on his farm. In addition to his mother, Mr. Vannoy is survived by his wife, Glenia Brooks Vannoy; a daughter, Amanda Evans and husband, Neil, of Clinton; a son, Kelly Vannoy and special friend, Amanda Rodriguez, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Sandra Lowry and husband, Charles, of Gainsville, and Brenda Todd and husband, Barry, of Nokesville, Va.; a brother, John M. Vannoy and wife, Carolyn, of Bessmer City, N.C.; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Calvin Braden officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Norris Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Jeanne Wayne Cornetto, 81, of Washington, Pa., died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Washington Hospital. Born Feb. 23, 1922, Charleroi, Pa., she was the daughter of Max and Anna Wayne, both now deceased. Mrs. Cornetto was a 1939 graduate of Charleroi High School. She later moved to Washington, where she lived for more than 50 years. She worked for G.C. Murphy Co. in its downtown Washington store for several years. She later owned and operated Jeanne's Print Shop from 1959 to 1984, when she retired. In 1984, Mrs. Cornetto helped start Washington County Literacy Council and remained involved until the time of her death. Throughout the years, she handcrafted hundreds of greeting cards for her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Cornetto, and by a brother, David Wayne.
