She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by her father, Bowman Roach. She is survived by her husband, Willard Goins; son, Tim Goins, both of LaFollette; 1 grandchild; mother, Edith Petree Roach, LaFollette; brother, Phillip Roach, LaFollette; sisters, Joan Douglas, West Milton, Ohio, Joyce Reed, Roseville, Calif. Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, August 29, at Cross Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Ronnie Poston and Rev. Howard Goins officiating. Interment at Victory Cemetery. PHILLIPS, RUBY GERALDINE PATTON "JEAN PATTON" - age 69, of Clinton, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003, at the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She was a 36 year member of North Clinton Baptist Church, a active chaplain with the Salvation Army, also a member of the AARP organization. She was a loving caregiver for the elderly and loved visiting area nursing homes. She spent most of her adult life witnessing to others and helping them to come to know Christ as their Savior. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Preceded in death by husband, Roy Clarence Patton; daughter, Ruby Jane "Squeekie" Patton, and several brothers and sisters. Jean was born December 30, 1933, in Crossville. Survivors: daughters, Mary Frances Armes and husband, Robert of Wartburg, Mary Jane Reneau and husband, Steve of Clinton, and Jennifer Childress and husband, John of Heiskell; grandchildren, Lisa Brady, Robia Rains, Bobbie Armes, Christopher Armes, Joshua Armes, Samantha Jane Goins and husband, Tate, Marvin McHugh and wife, Kelly, Leslie Rutherford, Logan Rutherford; nine great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Bill Patton and wife, Elzabeth of Andersonville, Charles Patton and wife, Pat of Clinton; brothers, Wilburn Ball & wife, Meredith of Crossville; sisters-in-law, Mary Jewell Patton of Clinton, Mary Anne Blankenship and husband, Oscar of Livingston, and Naomi Phipps and husband, Herman of Livingston, and several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family. Many special friends at the Clinton Towers where she had made her home. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, in Clinton, with funeral service following at 8:00 p.m., in the chapel with Sgt. Shirley Robinson and Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at New Bonaire Cemetery in Bonaire, Tennessee. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, of Clinton, in charge of all arrangements. NELSON, IVA JEAN - age 70, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at NHC Healthcare Center in Oak Ridge. She was a life-long member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church where she had been church pianist for many years. When she first started playing the piano for the church, she was so small that books were stacked to make her tall enough to reach the piano keys. In past years she and her husband had worked in the training union of the church. This year's vacation Bible school commencement was dedicated to Jean for all her years of teaching, playing the piano & working in the Bible school. Before her receding health, she had been very active not only in her church work but loved working around her home and gardening as a hobby. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren & great-grandchildren & also her church family. Preceded in death by parents, Sam & Hannah Hooks Hensley; brother, Bill Hensley; sisters, Ona Lusk, Polly Howell. Mrs. Nelson was born September 23, 1932 in Anderson County. Survivors: husband of 54 years, Elmer "Shorty" Nelson of Clinton; daughters, Ida Robinson & husband, Jim of Harrison, Helen Hughes & husband, David of Rossville, GA; son, Elmer "Butch" Nelson, Jr. & wife, Page of Clinton; grandchildren, Mandy & Chris Rice, Tony & Lisa Nelson, Richie Nelson; great-grandchildren, Destanie Rice, Joshua Rice, Anthony Nelson; sister-in-law, Alta Lee of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Carl Nelson & wife, Joyce of Elizabethton; several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2003 at Poplar Creek Baptist Church with funeral service following at 8:00 p.m., with Rev. Bill Dawson & Rev. WARD, DAVID - age 82 of Caryville, passed away Tuesday, August 26, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a veteran of WW II and a lifetime member of DAV. Preceded in death by his wife, Alma Ward; daughter, Nona Petrey; and parents Ferdinand and Creasey Phillips Ward. Survivors: sons and daughters in law, Lynn and Flo Ward, Jacksboro, Ben and Susie Ward, LaFollette; daughter and son in law, Linda and Randy Watson, Ashland, Ala.; son in law, Eugene Petrey, Caryville; 12 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sister, Emma Epperson, Powell, Tenn.; special friends, Lettie Madison and Freeman Marlow; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral service 8 p.m. Thursday August 28, at Cross Chapel, Rev. Harold Duncan and Rev. Jobby Byrge officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Friday at Jacksboro Cemetery.
