>From The Oak Ridger 15 Aug 2003 Helen Marie Sands, 92, of Oliver Springs, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at her home, where she lived with her son, David Sands and wife, Sandra. Born March 11, 1911, she was the daughter of Joseph and Marie Benkel, both now deceased. Mrs. Sands lived most of her life in Pottsville, Pa., and she came to Oliver Springs in 2000 to live with her son. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Pottsville. Her husband, David C. Sands; a brother, Joseph Benkel, who died in World War II; and a great-grandson, Anthony Vespie, also died earlier. In addition to her son and his wife, Mrs. Sands is survived by a sister, Jean Bryning of San Jose, Calif.; three granddaughters, Michelle Human and husband, Tony, Tammy Vespie and husband, Alan, and Susie Hicks, all of Wartburg; a grandson-in-law, Alan Dyer; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Human, Heath Human, Heather Vespie, Trent Vespie, Brittany Dyer and Trevor Dyer, all of Wartburg; and by one niece and one nephew of San Jose.
