Mrs. Bruce was the daughter of Joshua Teague and Martha King Teague. Although Mrs. Bruce was a supervisor and taught in the Oak Ridge school system near the end of her teaching career, she is best remembered for the many years she taught and coached at LaFollette High School. A graduate of LMU and Peabody College, Mrs. Bruce was selected to be in the LMU Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Chapter of Alpha Delta Gamma serving in numerous offices on both local and state levels. She was a published historian and a member of the Campbell County Historical Society serving with a strong sense of civic duty. Until recently she was an active member of the LaFollette Book Club having finished writing its history only a year ago. As long as her health would permit she worked as a volunteer at the Campbell County History Museum and served on the LaFollette Library Board. In 1986, she published History In Stone, a well researched resource of the Cemeteries in Campbell County. Mrs. Bruce enjoyed her role as a gardener and will be remembered for her beautiful roses and peonies that she so willingly would share. Her retirement years centered around her family and friends, restoring the Cain House, which is now known as the Bruce House, and her numerous varieties of flowers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Bruce. Many nieces and nephews survive her as well as grand-grand nieces and nephews. The family received friends Saturday, August 2 at Cross Funeral Home and the funeral followed with Dr. Charles Parker officiating. Burial was Sunday, August 3 in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the LaFollette Public Library or the Campbell County Historical Society. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Opal M. Brown, 81, Pioneer, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Jellico Community Hospital. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Brown; sons, McKinley Brown and Earl Brown; daughter, Melba Hicks; grandson, Jerry Wayne Morgan. Opal is survived by one son, Jesse Brown and wife Dee, Williamsburg, KY; two daughters, Jennifer Morgan and husband Carl, Newcomb, Janice Creager and husband John, Elk Valley; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gerthie Stonecipher, Pioneer and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Saturday, August 2 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Durand Dixon and David Morgan officiating. Burial was in Douglas Cemetery. Harp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Marie L. Carmany, 84, Knoxville, formerly of LaFollette, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Dave LeMarr; husband, William Nolan Carmany and infant son Bobby. Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Norman Tate, Knoxville; brothers, Ben, Lowell and Floyd, all of LaFollette; sisters, Ella Mae LeMarr and Joyce Franklin, both of LaFollette. Family and friends met at the entrance of Highland Memorial Cemetery, Knoxville, Friday, August 1 for graveside and entombment service with Rev. Ralph Cordell officiating. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mary Carley Evans, 66, Caryville, died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Lake View Baptist Church. Mrs. Evans was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Evans; parents, James and Ethel Shepherd Housley; brothers, Otha and Delynn Housley and sister, Robertta Strain. Mrs. Evans is survived by her son, Timothy Evans, Jacksboro; daughters, Vanessa Sparks and Pamela Smith, both of Caryville; Teresa Evans, LaFollette; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, Hershel Housley, LaFollette, Bobby Housley, Columbus, OH, Danny Housley, Atlanta, GA, Jim Housley, Cincinnati, OH and Tony Housley; sisters, Azlee McCullah, LaFollette, Ester Owens, VA, Yvonia Morrell, Jacksboro; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Tuesday, August 5 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Reverends Steve Elkins and Don Whited officiating. Interment was Wednesday, August 6 in Evans Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday before the funeral services. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Lois J. Spicer Glover, 66, Dayton, OH, formerly of Jacksboro, died Sunday, July 27, 2003. Mrs. Glover was born in Jacksboro, June 1, 1937 and was a member of the Northridge Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her father, Willis Spicer and sister, Aline Thomas. Mrs. Glover is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Colin Wingate, CA; son and daughter-in-law, David and Brenda Jenkins, Huber Heights; three grandchildren, Chase, Christian, Michael; mother, Ollie Mae Spicer; sisters, and brother-in-law, Shirley Sink, Vandalia, Judy and C. D. Arnett, Northridge; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Rita Spicer, Northridge, Dan Spicer, Union, Mark and Swana Spicer, New Carlisle; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends. The family wishes a special thanks to the medical staff and care givers at Wright Patterson Air Force Base Hospital. The family received friends Wednesday, July 30 at the George C. Martin Funeral Home, Northridge Chapel, Dayton, OH. Funeral services were Friday, August 1 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Minister Tim Medford officiating. Martin Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements. Jack L. Hildreth, 76, South Toledo, died July 31, 2003 in his residence. He was born September 17, 1926 to parents Lewis and Martha (Ness) Hildreth. Jack worked as a machine repairman for 27 years for the Jeep Corporation retiring in 1990. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary; daughter, Diane and grandson, Jack. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Dan) Wood, Pemberville, OH, Denise Douglas, Jellico; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. There was a private visitation and interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Pearl Marie Card Kirtley, 92, Knoxville, formerly of LaFollette, died Monday, August 4, 2003 at her home. She was a member of the LaFollette United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Kirtley and daughter, Betty Lee Kirtley Bevins. Marie is survived by her granddaughters, Lisa Barrell and husband, Jim; Brenda Portwood and husband, Russell; great grandchildren, Joshua Maddox and Jessica Portwood, all of Knoxville. The family received friends Wednesday, August 6 at Walters Funeral Home with a memorial service following and Rev. Steve Peek officiating. The burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. He was born April 3, 1933 at Valley Creek, the son of the late Hubert and Dovie Nix Longworth. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from General Motors. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Longworth, Clairfield; daughters, Debbie Longworth, Akron, OH, Vesta Longworth, Gloria Morris and husband, Fletcher, Clairfield; sons, Charles Longworth, all of Cleveland, OH, Louie Vaughn and wife Melinda, Pioneer, Tony Osborne and wife Sheila, White Oak, Jason Osborne, Straightfork; nine grandchildren; sisters, Mary King, Rose Creek, Delphia Lambert, Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services were Saturday, August 2 at the Cox and Son Chapel with Rev. Cecil Johnson officiating. Interment was Sunday, Aug. 3 in the Casey Cemetery at Roses Creek. Cox and Son Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements. Kathlynn Morgan Lowe, infant daughter of Mary and Dean Lowe, Pioneer was born and died July 30, 2003 at U.T. Medical Center. She is survived by her parents, Mary and Dean Lowe, Pioneer; three brothers, Christopher, Wesley and Allen, all of Pioneer; grandparents, Willard and Enna Bell, Gayther Dean and Irma Lowe; all of Pioneer; several aunts and uncles. Leland Miller Jr., 50, Speedwell, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville. He was of the Baptist Faith. Gussie Junior Murdock, 76, Jacksboro, died Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Mr. Murdock was a loving husband and friend of 35 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and would go the extra mile for anyone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gussie and Lillie Asphal Murdock; brother, Othie Murdock; and sister, Adell Templeton. Mr. Murdock is survived by his wife, Mary Lois Murdock, Jacksboro; sons, Rocky and Rusty Gibson, both of FL; daughters, Pat Davis, LaFollette; Valerie Gibson, Clinton; Audrey Ryan, VA, Sandra Blessingame, MI; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Claudie Ben Murdock, MO and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7 at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Ray Wilson officiating. Interment will be in at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8 in Baker's Forge Cemetery with full military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Effie Louise Phillips, 86, Pleasant View KY, died Saturday August 2, 2003 at Jellico Community Hospital. She was born April 26, 1917, at Mountain Ash, KY, the daughter of the late James Monroe Reed and Edna Green Reed. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Phillips who died September 21, 1966. Effie is survived by two daughters, Linda Phillips and Teresa Phillip, both of Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Chris Davenport and Jeremy Lambdin; brother, James Reed, Williamsburg, KY. Funeral services were held Monday, August 4, at Cox and Son Chapel with Rev. Lester Cox officiating. Interment was Tuesday in the Oak Lawn Cemetery at Pleasant View. Cox and Son Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements. Roy Mefford Pike, 66, Caryville, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville. He was a member of Lake View Baptist Church. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ida Pike; sister, Geraldine Hale; brother, Gene Pike; niece, Allison Hale, daughter of Arzo Hale. He is survived by a brother, Aud Pike, Caryville; sisters, Sandy and husband Jerry Montgomery, Judy and husband Rev. H.R. Douglas, all of Jacksboro; nieces, Fran Clinton, Jacksboro, Lenora Wilson, LaFollette; nephews, Gerald Hale; special nephew, Travis Montgomery. Funeral services were Friday, August 1 at Cross Funeral Home with Reverends Robert Adkins and Jehu Parks officiating. Interment was Saturday, August 2 at Harness Cemetery, Caryville. Angelina Sciantarelli, 82, Winona MN, died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the family home of her daughter, Joan Anderson, Winona. She is survived by her son Stephen (Marilyn) Sciantarelli, Lincoln Park, MI; daughters, Julie (Gary) MacDonald, Plymouth, MI, Joan (Mark) Anderson, Winona, MI; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nonnie Werner, Clawson, MI and Amelia Laffey, Warren, MI. Funeral services were Thursday, July 31 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Jellico with Father Thobias Sabariar officiating. Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Llewellyn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Linnie Lyke White, 87, beloved wife of Ulyss White, died, August 2, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center of LaFollette. She was a member of the Davis Chapel Community Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tansy and Laura Lyke; brothers, Garfield and Kirby Lyke; sisters, Elsie, Ermy, Dolly and Lora Belle. Linnie is survived by her husband, Ulyss White; brothers, Ernest Lyke, Goldsboro, N.C., T. J. Lyke, Holyyoke, MASS and many nieces and nephews. The family received friends Tuesday, August 5, at Cross Funeral Home and on Wednesday, August 6 at Davis Chapel Community Baptist Church. The funeral followed with Reverends Leroy Braden and Darryl Edward officiating. Interment was in the Sunrise Cemetery in the Davis Chapel Community.
