>From The Oak ridger 14 Aug 2003 Elva Louise Harris Hatcher, 92,Bonnie Lee Powers Gann, 87, of Fentress County, formerly of Oak Ridge Janice "Jann" Burton Holland, 51, ============================================ Elva Louise Harris Hatcher, 92, died Aug. 12, 2003, at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. orn Dec. 17, 1910, in Centreville, she was the oldest of 12 children of Arthur L. and Lillie Harris, both now deceased. She moved to Old Hickory in 1929, where she met and married Robert Dean Hatcher in 1932. Both were employees of DuPont Co. Mrs. Hatcher became a full-time housewife in 1940 following the birth of their only child, Robert Hatcher Jr., who now lives Oak Ridge. They lived in Old Hickory until 1955 when her husband accepted a position with Celanese Corp. in ZacapĂș in Central Mexico. In 1956, the family moved to Springfield, Ohio, and in 1957 to Madison, Tenn. In 1990, she moved to Oak Ridge to be closer to her family. She became a resident of Shannondale Assisted Living in 1999, and in 2001, as her health declined, moved to Shannondale Health Care Center. Once her son started school, Mrs. Hatcher returned to part-time or full-time employment as a sales person at a Castner-Knott Department Store in Nashville, and later was a sales person for several companies for products ranging from World Book Encyclopedia to life insurance. According to her family, she enjoyed working and did not retire until she was well into her 70s. She was a long-time member of the Old Hickory Presbyterian Church, and became an elder in 1986. Her family said she enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Old Hickory Garden Club for many years. Mrs. Hatcher played golf for a number of years as a member of the Old Hickory Country Club and won a club championship in 1955 while living in Mexico. Her family said she also enjoyed tracing family history and had been a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy since 1954, in which she served as president of the Nashville area chapter, and helped organize the Civil War Centennial celebration in the Nashville area during the early 1960s. She was also a member of the Daughters of 1812. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years in September 1983, and by a sister-in-law, Helen Addison and husband, Artie A. Addison Jr., who lived in Oak Ridge since 1943. In addition to her son, a University of Tennessee Distinguished Scientist, Mrs. Hatcher is survived by two brothers, William E. Harris of Old Hickory, and Robert Ray Harris of Mount Pleasant; and by two granddaughters, Laura C. Hatcher and Melinda D. Hatcher. A graveside service was to be Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, where she will be buried beside her husband. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. She was a cancer survivor and her father and several of her siblings were taken by cancer. Hermitage Funeral Home in Hermitage is in charge of arrangements. Bonnie Lee Powers Gann, 87, of Fentress County, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Darlene Shadrick, of Fentress County. Born June 8, 1916, in Meigs County, she was the daughter of John and Emma Powers, both now deceased. According to her family, Ms. Gann spent most of her life caring for children in the Oak Ridge area. In later years, she was a homemaker who, her family said, loved reading, spending time with family, the outdoors and gospel music. She spent most of her life in Roane, Anderson and Fentress counties and she was a Baptist. In addition to her daughter and husband, Jessie, Ms. Gann is survived by another daughter, Brenda Gardner of Oak Ridge; a son, Charles "Randy" Gann and wife, Doris Doherty, of Oak Ridge; and by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the Rev. Dale Cox officiating. A graveside service will be at noon Saturday, Aug. 16, at Crab Orchard Cemetery in Oakdale. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Janice "Jann" Burton Holland, 51, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, S.C. A native of Moticello, Ark., she was the daughter of Jauwice McKnight Stroupe and David Stroupe of Augusta, Ga., and the late Edsel Lee Burton. According to her family, she was filled with passion and love for the Lord, her family, her sewing and for all of life. Mrs. Holland is survived by her husband, Keith Holland; two sons, Jack Holland of Knoxville, and William Seth Holland of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Micah Holland Neal of Nashville; The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Chapel in Goodlettsville with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Sutton officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
