>From the Knoxville News Sentinel 10 Aug 2003 ARNURIUS, ARMOND "ARNIE" - age 96 of Norris CHADWICK, LENORE L. - age 87 of Clinton, NEFF, CARL M. - age 74 of Powell, NOE, THURMAN WILSON - age 87, of Karns, VANDERPOOL, MR. ROSS - age 88 of Lancing, ============================================ ARNURIUS, ARMOND "ARNIE" - age 96 of Norris passed away Saturday. He spent his last days at St. Mary's Residential Hospice where he was lovingly attended by his wife of almost 17 years, Chesley Dale Arnurius, other family members, scores of friends, and many kind nurses. He then returned home, spending his last night with his family before dying the following morning. He was born in Windsor, Connecticut, in 1906 and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. degree in landscape architecture and engineering. He moved his family to Norris in 1946 where he served the City of Norris for many years and in numerous capacities, including City Clerk, City Manager, City Councilman, and Mayor. In 1994 he was appointed Mayor Emeritus by the City Council. An ardent horseman, he rode for pleasure and in horse show competition. He received many ribbons for his walking horses and in 1994 the East TN Walking Horse Association awarded him the Overall High Point Performance Champion trophy. At age 90 he was listed by the Association as the oldest amateur rider. He was a long-term member of the Norris Religious Fellowship. Preceded in death by wife of 53 years, Evelyn Sandstrom Arnurius, parents Albert and Edith Lovell Arnurius, and sister and brother-in- law Charles and Vi Parsons. Survived by wife Chesley Dale Arnurius; son David Arnurius of Norris and special friend Phyllis Harrington of Claxton; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Beth Arnurius of Knoxville; grandchildren Scott, Mark, and Sarah Arnurius of Knoxville and Cynthia Hannon of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandchild Paige Hixon of Jacksonville; step-children Ann Dale Stierli of Knoxville, Janet Dale Jolly of Norris, and James Burrows Dale of Memphis; step-grandchildren Erika and Alison Stierli, Karen Jolly Stecker, and Peter Dale; nephews Robert and Bruce Parsons; cousin A.W. "Bud" Lovell and wife Priscilla of Essex, Connecticut; cousin Martha Porteus of Windsor, Connecticut; and many very special friends. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Graveside service for family and close friends 10:00 a.m. Monday at Norris Memorial Gardens, Rev. Keith Haverkamp and Rev. Robert Puckett officiating. Memorial service Sunday, August 17, 4:00 p.m. at Norris Religious Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester B. Chadwick. A long time resident of Clinton, she dedicated many hours to Habitat For Humanity, the Clinton Library and tutored children in the public schools. Among her varied interests were sewing, needlework, swimming, reading, and duplicate bridge. Survivors include her son, Richard A. Chadwick of Estill Springs, TN; three daughters; Carol Zitzow of Signal Mountain, TN, Mary Sue Sutton of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Kathyrn Chadwick, Clinton, TN; seven grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W. NEFF, CARL M. - age 74 of Powell, went home to be with the Lord August 9, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He left this life peacefully with his family by his side. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Powell. Mr. Neff was a retired employee of Y-12 in Oak Ridge where he worked as a chemist and supervisor for 44 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie. He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Smith and Linda Malin; son in law Buddy Malin; brother and sister in law, Wayne and Linda Neff; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Adam, Savannah and Aaron Malin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Clarence Sexton officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the W. NOE, THURMAN WILSON - age 87, of Karns, was born on June 14, 1916, and passed away on Aug 8, 2003. He was a deacon and active member of Grace Baptist Church before his extended illness. He was a Mason and a member of the Beaver Ridge Lodge No. 366, where he also served as treasurer for many years. Mr. Noe retired from the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge in 1981 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local 718 and recently received his 50-year membership award. Preceded in death by his parents, David W. and Minnie Harbin Noe; brother, Carroll H. Noe, Sr.; sister, Lorene Moody, and half-sister, Lida Cannon. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine Carson Noe; son and daughter-in-law, David and Teresa Noe; granddaughter and husband, Tammy and Chris Gregg; grandson, Billy Noe; great- granddaughter, Caitlin Gregg; step-sisters, Gertrude Harbin and Cloria Anderson; sisters-in-law, Lily Ruth and Wanda Carson; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at Weaver Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m., with Reverend Alfred T. Royer officiating. Family and friends will go in procession to Oak Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery for burial. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Ed Valentine's Sunday School Class of Grace Baptist Church. ROSS - age 88 of Lancing, passed away Friday, August 8, 2003 at the U.T. Medical Center. He was the oldest male member of Pilot Mountain Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Vanderpool; son, Gary Vanderpool and daughter-in-law, Lynn of Winterville, NC; son, Donald Vanderpool of Helenwood; daughter, Kay Stringfield and son-in-law, Ernest Stringfield of Lancing; grandchildren, Teresa Byrd, Charles (Chuck) Vanderpool, Angie Harlan, and Sarah Vanderpool; six Great- grandchildren and one Great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
