    2. >From The Knoxville News Sentinel 30 Aug 2003 COMBS, WILBURN WILLIAM - Clinton, STANFORD, DOVIE LEE COMER - age 95, of LaFollette, ============================================ COMBS, WILBURN WILLIAM - a resident of Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Clinton, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003. He was born July 26, 1908, in Jefferson City. He graduated in 1933 with a BS in Chemistry from Carson Newman College, where he lettered in Football and Basketball. He taught High School Chemistry and coached Football and Basketball in White Pine and in Jamestown, Tennessee, at Alvin C. York Institute. He was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1946, serving in Burma and India. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and received special recognition for his work on the Burma Road. He worked as a Chemist at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge from 1946 until his retirement in 1973. After retirement, he and his wife made their home in Mountain City, Tennessee, until returning here in 2001. He was a faithful member of Mountain City Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years on August 10, 2003, Stephanie Martitia Nave Combs, by his parents, Horace and Sarah Seaton Combs, and by his brother, Clifton Combs. Survivors: sons, Steven Combs and wife, Bebe of Clinton, Douglas Combs of Knoxville; grandchildren, Melissa Combs Dyson and husband, Henry of Columbia, Mo., Meredith Combs Reed and husband, Marty of Nashville, Renee Combs of Johnson City and Amy Combs of Knoxville; nephew, John Lowe and wife, Dare of Mountain City; niece, Anne Lowe Blackwood of Durham, N.C. Interment will be held at Baker/McQueen Family Cemetery in Mountain City, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family request, memorials be made to Mountain City Presbyterian Church, Fairground Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee, 37683. Holley- Gamble Funeral Home, of Clinton, in charge of all arrangements. STANFORD, DOVIE LEE COMER - age 95, of LaFollette, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Sunbridge Care & Rehab, LaFollette. She was a member of Long Hollow Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Jim and Ida Bell White; husbands, George Comer and John Stanford; sisters, Rushie Hill, Beattie Kitts, June Wilhoit and Mossie Bailey; brothers, Conley, Dewey, Haston and Curtis White; children, Martha Comer, Nell Jordon and Ruth Riggs and grandchildren, Darlene Lee, Sandy Comer and David Comer. Survivors: sons, James and Paul Comer, LaFollette, George Comer, Clinton; daughters, Betty J. Heatherly, Lavon Petree and Jewell Chapman, all of LaFollette; step daughters, Agnes Gibson, Stella Rogers and Mary Hembree; 24 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; brother, Claude White; sister, Trula McFarland, both of LaFollette; several nieces and nepehws and a host of friends. Funeral service 8 p.m. Saturday August 30, 2003 at Cross Chapel, Rev. Leroy Braden and Rev. Randy Comer officiating. Interment 1 p.m. Sunday August 31 at Davis Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday before the funeral service.
