    2. >From The LaFollette Press 24 Jul 2003 Mary Helen Day, 93 of LaFollette, formerly of Jellico Margaret Ethel Vermillion, 90 of Black Oak community, Williamsburg, KY Infant Zack David Goins, 4 weeks, of LaFollette, Mildred Jean "Giggi" Ballard Huff Elder "Giggi", 74, Betty Lynn Ledford, 59, Knoxville, formerly of LaFollette, Margie McKinney Mengrone, 60, Lexington, KY, formerly, Caryville, Michael Leo Muse, 42 of LaFollette, Karen Lea Taylor Young, 45, LaFollette, ============================================ Mary Helen Day, 93 of LaFollette, formerly of Jellico died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at St. Mary's Health & Rehab Center, LaFollette. She was born Feb. 20, 1910 at Springfield, Il, the daughter of the late William and Zoe Oaks Lowe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Day. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Rhea and Mary Jo Thurman, both of LaFollette; sons, Pete Day, Clinton, Jack Day, LaFollette, five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Monte Heller, Akron, OH. Eastern Star services were held Thursday, July 17 at the Cox & Son Chapel with funeral services following with Reverends Danny Hensley and Tom Baez officiating. Interment was Friday, July 18 in the Jellico Cemetery. Cox & Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Margaret Ethel Vermillion, 90 of Black Oak community, Williamsburg, KY, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Corbin Nursing Home, Corbin, KY. She was born Oct. 2, 1912 in Jellico, KY, the daughter of the late Charles and Rosannah Daugherty Vermillion. She was a member of the Jellico United Methodist Church and a retired schoolteacher. Margaret is survived by several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were Saturday, July 19 at the Jellico Cemetery with Rev. John Richardson officiating. Cox & Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Infant Zack David Goins, 4 weeks, of LaFollette, died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. Little Zack attended the House of Prayer and Praise. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Naomi Boshears; great-grandfather, John Berry. Zack is survived by his father, Roy Farmer and mother, April Goins, both of LaFollette; brother, Jacob Marcum, Jacksboro; sister, Autumn Goins; grandparents, John and Tammy Berry, LaFollette; great-grandparents, Barbara Berry, all of LaFollette; Melvin and Leora Boshears, Jacksboro; aunt, Christy Berry, LaFollette and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 23 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Franklin officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday before the services. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mildred Jean "Giggi" Ballard Huff Elder "Giggi", 74, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksboro. Mildred was employed for 25 years at Knoxville-Maryville Motor Express, Inc., as an office manager and treasurer. Her first husband, Paul Reece Elder who owned the company. She was most recently employed with Profitt's at West Town Mall. She and her sister, Mary Huff Summey were raised by their grandparents, Francis and Molly Huff of Jacksboro. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clell Huff and Clara Baker Bowman and step-mother Nell Huff; grandparents, Francis and Molly Huff; her husband, William Edward Ballard; second husband and the love of her live Paul Reece Elder and infant grandson, Michael Reece Smith; sister Mary Huff Summey. She is survived by her daughter and husband, Donna and Charles Matheny, Knoxville; daughter, Patricia J. Pennington, Knoxville, daughter of William Edward Ballard; brothers, Clell Huff, Habersham, Charles Huff, Dallas, TX; sisters, Louise Davis, Ramona Pate and Emma Lee Clark; cousins, Mary Sue and Roy Bently and Andrea Green; five grandchildren, Susan Smith Loy, Jeanne Smith Hope, Jeffrey Bowden Hollins, Matheny Corner, Matthew Matheny; great-grandchildren, Michael Belevich, Brittany Belevich, Ashley Hope, Joshua Waller Loy, Devon Bowden, Kaithlyn Cornder and Cade Corner; several nieces and nephews and dear friends Patsy and John Dennis. The family received friend at Highland Memorial Park. Funeral and cremation services were held in Knoxville. Burial was at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Highland Memorial Park and Cremations was in charge of the arrangements. Betty Lynn Ledford, 59, Knoxville, formerly of LaFollette, died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at her home. She was of the Baptist faith. She was an employee of the Levi Strauss Company for 30 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl (Babe) and Effie Lee (Goins) Ledford. Betty is survived by her brothers, Jimmy and wife Sue Ann Ledford, Wade Ledford, all of LaFollette; sisters and husbands, Linda Hinch, Kathy and Harry Lee Brown, all of LaFollette, Shirley and Jimmy Guider, Ft. Myers, FLA; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends; two very special grandnephews, Tyler and Billy. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 23 at Cross Funeral Home with Reverends James Adkins and Thomas Adkins officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24 at Bakers Forge Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, July 23 prior to the funeral services. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Margie McKinney Mengrone, 60, Lexington, KY, formerly, Caryville, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in Lexington. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene McKinney, employee of Scott Gross Co. in Lexington. Margie is survived by her son, Gary Hart; grandson, Daniel Hart, both of Lexington, KY; mother, Glenna Walls McKinney, Caryville; brother, Shirley McKinney, Dayton, OH. Funeral services were Sunday, July 20 at the First Baptist Church in Caryville with Dr. T.D. Hooker officiating. Interment was in Campbell Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Lucille Markey Cancer Center both in Lexington, KY. The family received friends Saturday, July 19 at Cross Funeral Home. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Michael Leo Muse, 42 of LaFollette, died Wednesday July 16, 2003 at his home. He was of the Holiness faith. Michael enjoyed reading. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Muse and brother, Jerry Finton. Mr. Muse is survived by his mother, Robbie Muse; brothers, Bobby, Roger, Steve, Terry Gary, Robert and Travis, all of LaFollette; sisters, Vickie Taylor, Jacksboro, Elizabeth McGhee, LaFollette, Tracy Tackett, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Friday, July 18 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Junior Dilbeck officiating. Interment was Saturday, July 19 in the Peabody Cemetery. The family received friends Friday before the funeral services. Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Karen Lea Taylor Young, 45, LaFollette, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at her home. She was a member of the New Horizon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathryn Hutchison Taylor; brothers, Jimmy and Lawrence Taylor. Karen is survived by her husband, David G. Young; daughters, Lindsay and Kayla Young; daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Billy Davis, Kendra and Jason Watson, all of LaFollette; beloved grandson, Tanner Davis; beautiful red headed granddaughter and namesake, Karenna Davis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Connie Taylor, Clinton, Robert Paul and Catherine Taylor, IL; sister, Brenda Sue Taylor, LaFollette; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Sam Baird, LaFollette, Katye and Steve Richardson, Elizabeth and Clarence Haynes, all of GA; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 8 p.m Thursday, July 24 at the New Horizon Baptist Church with Reverends Jim Wilcox and John L. Shoun officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday in Baker's Forge Cemetery. The family will receive friend from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday night before funeral services at the church.
