    2. >From The Knoxville News Sentinel 10 Jul 2003 GREGORY, ALBERT HARDING - age 82, of Clinton, WARD, JULIA MERCER - ============================================ GREGORY, ALBERT HARDING - age 82, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Windwood Health Care Center. He was born March 13, 1921 in Wayne County, Illinois to the late William & Lieuvenia Byars Gregory. He attended Southern Illinois University and married Ruth Johnson on June 6, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mr. Gregory served in the United States Army with the 1st Cavalry Division during WWII, in the Philippines & Australia. They moved to Clinton in 1956, and he worked as a draftsman at the various Oak Ridge plants, mainly for Oak Ridge National Laboratories. He was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church where he served on various committees and was ordained as a Deacon in 1956. In 2001, the church granted him the status of Deacon Emeritus. He was a long- time active member of the Clinton Lions Club, having served in various local offices of the club as well as district offices. After his retirement, he was a weekly volunteer at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. His hobbies included woodworking & gardening. Preceded in death by parents, William & Lieuvenia Byars Gregory; and brother, Howard Gregory. Survivors: wife, Ruth Johnson Gregory of Clinton; son, David Gregory & wife, Jan of Newnan, GA; granddaughter, Anne Gregory of Nashville. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following the visitation at 8:00 p.m., in the chapel with Rev. Samuel Dean & Dr. Paul Frick officiating. Interment will be held 11:00 am, Friday at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Clinton First Baptist Church, PO Box 268, Clinton, Tennessee, 37717. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements. WARD, JULIA MERCER - died around 5:30 a.m. on July 8 at the NHC Healthcare, Fort Sanders, Knoxville after a valiant struggle of several months due to a rupture of an aneurysm in her brain in the last days of January. Julia was born in Washington, DC, on July 26, 1956, the daughter of Joseph and Edith Mercer. Her family moved to Oak Ridge in September 1957 when her father accepted a position in the office of the General Counsel of the Atomic Energy Commission at Oak Ridge. Julia attended Oak Ridge Schools, graduating in 1974. Her interests then were the Oak Ridge High School swim team of which she was a member and with the Camp Fire Girls as a camp counselor. She received her BS Degree in Mathematics from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky. She taught mathematics in both Kentucky and Tennessee and really enjoyed her chosen career. Julia is survived by her parents; her son, James C. Ward of Knoxville; her sister, Janet K. Mercer of Knoxville; her brother, Joseph J. Mercer, III and his wife, Patti of Dallas, Texas; her loving nieces and nephews, Melinda, Alaina, Jake, Mallory, Mitchell and Todd; her aunt, Cynthia Baxter of Vancouver, BC and her six cousins living in Canada and the United States. A memorial service celebrating her life is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2003 at The Lord's Chapel, 268 South Peters Road, Knoxville, Tenn. with Rev. Shirley Delap officiating. The family will welcome friends beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Julia's name to the charity of choice.
