She was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church in Lake City. She was born August 20, 1923, in Campbell County, Tenn. She is preceded in death by parent, Luther and Millie Heatherly, and husband, Condy Fritts. Survivors: son, Walter and wife, Betty Fritts of Jacksboro, Tenn.; grandson, Jamie Lee Fritts of Jacksboro, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Logan and McKinley Fritts of Lake City, Tenn.; brother, Luther Heatherly, Jr. of Lake City, Tenn.; sisters, Mable Whitaker of Lake City, Tenn., Dorothy Foust of Clinton, Tenn., and Geraldine Howard of Lake City, Tenn., several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Hatmaker Funeral Home, of Lake City, in charge of arrangements. HENRY, BURL FLOYD - age 77, of Oak Ridge, died suddenly Saturday, September 6, 2003. Retired Draftsman / Martin Marietta Energy Systems, ORNL. Member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served for many years as Recording Secretary. Survived by cousin, William A. Varnell, of Oak Ridge, his wife, Linda, and their children, Daniel and Mary Varnell of Chattanooga, and James L. Varnell of Oak Ridge. Also survived by cousins in the Dunlap, Whitwell, and Jasper areas of Tennessee. Special friends in the Oak Ridge area include Mrs. Evelyn Ray and her late husband, Ridley, the late Howard and Clara Harmon, Gary and Vivian Coleman, Sr. and Gary Coleman, Jr. and his wife, Betsy. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Vernon J. Sansom Jr., officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. CDT at Sequatchie Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tenn. (www.weatherfordmortuary.com) HOOGESTEGER, JOHN DAVID - son of John and Emily Hoogesteger, of 107 Westlook Drive, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2003, of cancer. Mr. Hoogesteger served in the Grand Rapids, Mich. Fire Department as Fire Marshall, under his father John for ten years. After resigning his post in Grand Rapids, he ventured south to Venezuela, South America to set up a fire fighting unit for Standard Oil. He stayed in Venezuela for five years, then returning to the states, he became Fire Chief back in Grand Rapids, following his father's footsteps. After several years as Fire Chief, he took a job in Oak Ridge and worked as Chief of Fire Protection and Security at Union Carbide's K-25 Plant. He remained with K-25 until his retirement in 1982. Subsequently, Mr. Hoogesteger continued work with Professional Loss Control as a consultant in fire protection, as a senior fire protection engineer, working throughout the United States. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Alliance Church. Mr. Hoogesteger was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dallas Irene Hoogesteger, who passed away in 1997. He is survived by three children: David Hoogesteger and his wife, Virginia of Nashville, Tenn., Deborah Bell and her husband James of Atlanta, Ga., and Brian Hoogesteger of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Daniel and Cristina Hoogesteger of Nashville, Justin Bell and his wife, Frankie, as well as Erin and Brittan Bell of Atlanta, and great-granddaughter, Julia Layne Bell of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Dale Crank officiating. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge. TURNER, WALTER EDGAR - of Clinton, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, at the age of 83. He was formerly of Knoxville where he lived in West Hills for 34 years before moving to Clinton, Tennessee in 1998. He attended New Hopewell Baptist Church of South Knoxville for 14 years. He served as Deacon, Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden. He was a Veteran and served in Europe during World War II. He was retired from Carborundum Company of Buffalo, New York in Knoxville. Preceded in death by wife of 63 years, Imogene Olivia Turner; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Turner; brothers, Tuck, Fred and Charles Turner; sister, Alma Mae. Survivors include brother, Lewis and wife, Gladys Turner of Knoxville; sister, Louise Lawson of Knoxville; two sons, Gary and wife, Anna, and granddaughter, Kimberly Turner of Clinton, John and wife, Susan, and granddaughter, Laura Turner of Clinton.
