"Al" Mattus, 55, of Oak Ridge, William Lawson "Bill" Russell, 92, of Oak Ridge, Hobart Tinch, 81, of Oak Ridge, ============================================ Johnnie Elese Stockton, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Stockton worked at the Village Restaurant for many years before retiring at age 77. She was best known at the restaurant for her biscuits and coconut and chocolate pies. She had previously worked at the grill at Walgreens for 15 years and for a brief time at the Cheese Crock, both in the old Downtown Shopping Center. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Lonely Hearts Sunday School Class. Born Jan. 9, 1917, in Livingston, she was the daughter of Minnie and Mayhue West. She and her husband Jesse Fowler Stockton were married on Nov. 30, 1935, and they moved to Oak Ridge in 1950. Her husband died in 1991. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward H. Stockton, her brother, Houston West, and a great-granddaughter, Katie Elise James. Mrs. Stockton is survived by seven children, Lee Ann Sweatt of Trussville, Ala., Jackie Nunley and her husband, Bob, of Gladwin, Mich., Marshall Stockton of San Francisco, Calif., Linda Benson and her husband, Johnny, of Knoxville, Barbara Moore of Oak Ridge, Mike Stockton and his wife, Debbie, of Houston, Texas, and Donna Roth and her husband, Fred, of Brighton; and by a daughter-in-law, Billie Stockton of Las Vegas, Nev. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several other relatives. The funeral will be at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Lloyd Gulley III, 33, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. Born Nov. 10, 1969, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Brenda Rutherford of Oak Ridge and Lloyd Gulley Jr. of Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Gulley had lived in Oliver Springs since 1979 and was a self-employed carpenter. He attended the Family Worship Center in the Stephens community in Morgan County. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Butch Patrick Gulley and Danny Wayne Gulley; his paternal grandfather, Lloyd Gulley Sr.; and by his maternal grandparents, Sherman York and Gertrude Moore. In addition to his mother and her husband, Bob, and his father and his wife, Pat, Mr. Gulley is survived by his wife, Greta Gulley; two children, Shanna Renee Steelman and Casey Danielle Gulley, both of Oliver Springs; his grandson, Tyler Daniel Burgess of Oliver Springs; a brother, Rodney Gulley of Knoxville; his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Gulley of Dayton, Ohio; and by his nephew, Brad Gulley Gorman of Oak Ridge. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Doug Ritter and the Rev. Frank Price officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery in Oliver Springs. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home. Alfred J. "Al" Mattus, 55, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born May 13, 1948, in Taylor, Pa., he was the son of Alfred John and Grace Schultz Mattus, both now deceased. Mr. Mattus served in the U.S. Army and was employed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he was a chemist. Mr. Mattus is survived by his wife, Catherine Peyre Mattus; two sons, David Jonathan Mattus, and fiancée, Dawn Nichelson, of Oak Ridge and Marc Alfred Mattus of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Elissa Lynn Mattus, and fiancé, Chad Diggs, and Marie Stephanie Mattus, all of Oak Ridge; a sister-in-law, Lee Mattus of Bridgeton, N.J.; her granddaughter, Katelyn Ellisa Mattus; and by his former wife, Chong Sperry, and husband, David. Bill and Amalia Delcul of Oak Ridge are considered special friends. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Sam Sturm officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with full military rites provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. William Lawson "Bill" Russell, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at his home. A memorial service will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the American Museum of Science and Energy. Hobart Tinch, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
