    2. >From The Oak Ridger 1 Sep 2003 Marie Savilla Graves Hester, 86, of Oak Ridge, Joyce King Samples, 70, of Hixson, Virgil Rose, 91, of Oliver Springs, Mark Anthony Lovely, 41, Jacksboro, Masil Eulene Leach, 72, of Frost Bottom community, Mamie French, 90, of Oliver Springs, ============================================ Marie Savilla Graves Hester, 86, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at NHC Healthcare of Oak Ridge, surrounded by friends. Born May 14, 1917, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Willie and Pearl Bartley Graves. She had been a member of the Highland View Church of Christ since the early days of Oak Ridge. A registered nurse, she began her employment May 24, 1945 with Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, K-25, and retired on Oct. 31, 1977. After retirement, she volunteered as a camp nurse for Teenage Christian Camp in Knoxville, enjoying her work with teenagers. She was an active member of the YWCA, of Oak Ridge and worked in the Nearly New Shop until she entered NHC. She was also a member of the Ragtime Band in Oak Ridge. According to her family, she was close to her nurses and caregivers at NHC especially Shannon Darnell. Her husband, Herbert Hester, died May 8, 1988. Mrs. Hester is survived by two nieces and a nephew, Elaine Haitt of Georgia, and Ellen Spillane and Andy Ernst, both of Florida. Becky Scarbrough, Pauline Johnson, people at the YWCA and the Senior Center, and church friends at Highland View Church of Christ were considered special friends. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Curtis McClane officiating. Pattye McGrew, a life long friend and member of Hester's nursing class from Columbia placed a special red rose in the casket. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Highland View Church of Christ, Youth Group, 138 Providence Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to the YWCA of Oak Ridge, 1660 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Joyce King Samples, 70, of Hixson, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at a hospital in Chattanooga. Born Dec. 6, 1932, in Knox County, the daughter of Verlus Clyde King and Mary Emma Dell Murrell King. She lived many years in Oak Ridge, where she attended Robertsville Baptist Church. She retired from Hartford Steam Boiler, where she was a certified professional secretary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn King and Buddy King. Mrs. Samples is survived by three daughters, Diane Boaz and husband, Ray, of Signal Mountain; Janeen Davis and husband, Steve, of Houston, Texas; and Jenny Sharp and husband, Tom, of Farragut. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth Burnette and husband, Chad, of Nashville, and Katie Boaz and Ray Boaz III, both of Signal Mountain, and Stephen Davis and Matthew Davis, both of Houston. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Joe Easterly officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the American Lung Association, 212 S. Peters Road, Suite 106, Knoxville, TN 37923. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Weatherford Mortuary. Virgil Rose, 91, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at his residence. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs and retired after 30 years as a courier for the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Omega Masonic Lodge, No. 536, in Oliver Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Tempa Goodman Rose, his wife, Cloda Beatrice Nelson Rose, and two brothers, Zenith Rose and Bud Rose. Mr. Rose is survived by two sons and their wives, William "Bill" and Linda Rose of Oliver Springs, and Donald "Don" and Karen Rose of Kingston; and by two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. David Archer of Clinton, his caregiver, was considered a special friend. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Garvan Walls and the Rev. Keith Price officiating. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mark Anthony Lovely, 41, 576 Pinecrest Road, Jacksboro, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. According to his family, Mr. Lovely professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a great sportsman who loved hunting and fishing, and enjoyed his family and friends very much, his family said. Mr. Lovely is survived by his parents, J.H. and Opal Lovely; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Charlie Rolston, all of Jacksboro. He is also survived by three aunts and an uncle, Georgia Mowell and Vida Kelly, both of Jacksboro, and Ruby Wilson and Luther Lynch, both of Dayton, Ohio; and by several other relatives. Lucy Wilson of LaFollette was considered a special friend. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home in LaFollette with the Rev. Mark Branam and the Rev. Bobby Ray Wilson officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept., 2, at Willoughby Cemetery in Jacksboro. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Masil Eulene Leach, 72, of Frost Bottom community, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, in Augusta, Ga. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete at press time. Mamie French, 90, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at her home.
