Born April 26, 1920, in Boyle, Miss., he was the son of Monroe and Mollie Steed, both now deceased. Mr. Steed was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church and was retired from the Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant. His family said he was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, DeWitt Steed, Edward Steed, James Steed and Bobby Steed; and by two sisters, Pearl Robertson and Lillian Bingham. Mr. Steed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katherine Orton Steed; five brothers, Carlee Steed and wife, Rebecca, of Columbus, Ga., Estel Steed and wife, Agnes, of Cleveland, Miss., William Steed of Beulah, Miss., Talmadge Steed and wife, Dossie, of Vicksburg, Miss., and Raymond Steed and wife, Patricia, of Carlotta, Calif.; and by three sisters, Merle Dreher of Cleveland, Hazel Tedford and husband, Earl, of Beulah, and Ruby Anita Horton of Leland, Miss. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Orton Jackson of Springvi lle, Muisette Steed and Elsie Steed; and by several nieces and nephews including Shirley Richardson of Casey, Ill., who he considered special. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. John David Hoogesteger, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, of cancer. Mr. Hoogesteger served with the fire department in Grand Rapids, Mich., as the fire marshall, under his father for 10 years. After resigning his post in Grand Rapids, he ventured south to Venezuela, South America to set up a fire fighting unit for Standard Oil. He served in Venezuela for five years and then returned to Grand Rapids, where he became fire chief, following in his father's footsteps. After serving several years as fire chief, Mr. Hoogesteger took a job in Oak Ridge, where he worked as chief of fire protection and security at Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the K-25 site. He remained at K-25 until his retirement in 1982. Subsequently, Mr. Hoogesteger continued work with Professional Loss Control as a consultant in fire protection, as a senior fire protection engineer, working throughout the United States. He was a member of Oak Ridge Alliance Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dallas Irene Hoogesteger, who died in 1997; and by his parents, John and Emily Hoogesteger. Mr. Hoogesteger is survived by three children, David Hoogesteger and wife, Virginia, of Nashville, Deborah Bell and husband, James, of Atlanta, Ga., and Brian Hoogesteger of Oak Ridge; five grandchildren, Daniel Hoogesteger and Cristina Hoogesteger, both of Nashville, Justin Bell and wife, Frankie, and Erin Bell and Brittan Bell, of Atlanta; and by a great-granddaughter, Julia Layne Bell of Atlanta. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Dale Crank officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Winston Ray Cannon, 49, of Clinton, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the home of his brother, Winifred Cannon, of the Batley community in Anderson County. Born April 6, 1954, in Memphis, he was the son of Harmon Cannon and Freida Benham Cannon, both now deceased. Mr. Cannon lived in Anderson County for the past 20 years. In addition to his brother and his wife, Judy, he is survived by a brother, Charles Cannon and wife, Bernice, of Briceville; and by a sister, Frankie Miles of Las Vegas, Nev. A graveside service was to be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Garvan Walls officiating. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements. Glendon Telow Miller, 86, of Claxton, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Shannondale Health Care Center in Knoxville.
