HUTSON, SAMUEL LUTHER,92 KINCAID, JAMES BARRY - 55 formerly of Clinton LEWIS, MADGE T. - age 78 of Powell MASSENGALE, LEON E. - age 77, of Coalfield, ============================================ BORELLA, LENA ELNA - 80, Oak Ridge died on September 26, 2003 at the Methodist Medical Center. Born on July 3, 1923 to parents Clarence and Sally Louise Green Winslett. A member of Robertsville Baptist Church where she was active with Tabitha's Table, Sunday school, and the chancel choir. Past president of the Cancer Cupboard, member of Woman's Club, and a former member of Rambling Rebels Square Dance Club. A homemaker who was an avid craft maker and league bowler. Mrs. Borella came to Oak Ridge from Birmingham, Alabama in 1951. Preceded in death by husband, George Brady "Chuck" Borella, February 1, 1986 and by granddaughter, Colleen Cade. Survivors include: sons, Larry Borella and wife, Lucille of Dripping Springs, TX, Donald Borella and wife, Cherie of Hendersonville, TN; daughter, Cindy Lou Justice, Oak Ridge; sister, Nina Kent, Alabaster, Alabama; grandchildren, Travis Borella, Tampa, FL, Kathy Justice Flinchum, Knoxville, Sally and Darcy Borella, Dripping Springs, TX, Brady and Michael Borella, Hendersonville, TN; niece, Joy Stanford, Pineapple, AL; nephew, Mike Kent, Alabaster, TX. The family requests that memorials be made to Robertsville Baptist Church, 251 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary on Sunday, 8 PM with Dr. Michael Prince officiating. Graveside service will be on Monday, 11 AM at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 - 8 PM at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge. FRENCH, RICHARD M. - longtime member of St. Stephen's. Richard M. French, 76, of Oak Ridge died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at his home after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. French was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church's Young Adult Group where he met Jeanne Rogers, whom he married on Oct. 15, 1955. At the church he was also active with the choir and St. Francis Garden Guild and served on the vestry several times. Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 20, 1927, he was the son of Maurice Lester French and Helen Welsch French. He served in the Navy during World War 11. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a chemical engineering degree. Before coming to Oak Ridge, he worked for Phillips at a carbon block plant in Borger, Texas. Mr. French came to Oak Ridge in 1951 and began employment with Union Carbide at K- 25. He moved to Y-12 in the early 60's and worked in project engineering and dimensibral inspection. He returned to K-25 in the late 1980's to work for DSRD. He retired in 1994 with 42 years of company service. After retirement, Mr. French enjoyed attending, with his wife, the governor's conferences on tourism and meetings of the East TN Tourism Group to promote Oak Ridge. He also enjoyed visits from his two granddaughters and having breakfast and lunch with his retiree buddies. Over his life he enjoyed many hobbies including duplicate bridge and model trains. Mr. French was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Jeanne. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Jeanne French of Oak Ridge and Sally Stalnaker of Marlton, NJ and her husband, Stan Stalnaker; two granddaughters, Katherine and Virginia Stalnaker of Marlton, NJ; a brother, Warren French of Tallahassee, FL; a brother-in-law, George Rogers of Waterford, Michigan and his wife, Del Rogers. The funeral will be at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, Sept. 29 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 212 N. Tulane Avenue with the Rev. Claire Keene officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in St. Stephen's Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends in the Parrish Hall of the church following the interment. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 212 N. Tulane Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to charity of donor's choice. Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, in charge of arrangements. HUTSON, SAMUEL LUTHER (LUKE) - 92, passed away on August 29, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the beloved husband of Doris, dear father of sons Maurice, Sammy, Wayne, and Joe; stepdaughters Marie Bowen and Melissa Lolmaugh; grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother of Thelma Treece, Thomas (Pete) Hutson, Lucy Sharp and Lucille Hatmaker. Luke and Doris were married in 1976 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, after his retirement from Giffels & Associates of Detroit. Luke was predeceased by his wife of 33 1/2 years, Juanita, in 1974. Luke was born August 16th, 1911, the sixth child of Tom & Lucy Bell Hutson of Andersonville, Tennessee. He graduated from Andersonville High School in 1930; joined the Tennessee Valley Authority's Norris Dam jobsite in 1933; worked as an electrician on the TVA's Pickwick Dam & Kentucky Dam projects as a member of IBEW; and worked at the Oak Ridge Atomic Plant (Manhattan Project) during WWII. He lived in Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Ohio, before settling down in St. Clair Shores, Michigan in 1958. As an electrical engineer at Giffels & Associates, he was part of the Saturn Five launch pad design team for NASA's Apollo project. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of St. Clair Shores, afterward attending Manatee United Methodist Church (Bradenton, Florida), and Colonial Baptist Church (Tyler, Texas). A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of St. Clair Shores (Saturday Oct. 4th at 1 PM). KINCAID, JAMES BARRY - 55 of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Clinton and Knoxville, Tenn., passed from this life into glorious eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord on Saturday August 16th, 2003. A memorial service was held in Sarasota, Fla. Barry was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. Barry was an Air Force veteran, a member of several real estate associations, Elks Club, VFW and the American Legion. He received a BS degree in Business and Marketing from the University of Tennessee. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl S. Kincaid, Sr. of Clinton. Survivors include a sister, Bronwyn Kincaid Snyder (and husband, Keith) of Columbia, SC; 2 brothers, Garnett Cross Kincaid (and wife, Alice) of Clinton and Carl Stephen Kincaid, Jr. (and wife, Helen) of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; 2 nephews of Columbia, SC,, Brett Snyder and Bartlett Snyder; a great niece, Madison Gretchen Snyder (11 mos.) and many more beloved nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc. P.O. Box 21475, St. Petersburg, Fla. 33742 LEWIS, MADGE T. - age 78 of Powell, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at Baptist Hospital. She was born on January 19, 1925 in Benham, Ky., to Roy and Bessie Smith Templin. She resided at Windsor Gardens Assisted Living and was a member of Fair Havens Baptist Church Powell. She had worked at A.E.C. in Oak Ridge, the Oak Ridger and Hills Department Stores. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Lewis; parents; sisters, Elaine Shelton and Merle Benton; brother, Charles T. Templin. Survivors include: son and daughter in law, Keith and Gail Lewis of Harrison, Tenn.; daughter and son in law, Paula and Lawrence Cadden of Goochland, Va.; son, Scott Lewis of Powell; brothers and sisters in law, Melvin Templin of Norfolk, Va., Herbert and Dorothy Templin of Maryville and Travis and Sammie Templin of Athens; sisters and brothers in law, Mildred and James McCloud of Halls, Fay Ziglar of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Shirley White of Fayetteville, NC. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, Mynatt Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Wayne Roach and Rev. R.C. Harless officiating. Interment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. The family suggest in lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Lung Association or Fair Havens Baptist Church of Powell. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Mynatt Funeral Home. MASSENGALE, LEON E. - age 77, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Friday, September 26, 2003 at his home. Mr. Massengale was the 5th born of 8 sons to the union of Hobert and Ora Edmonds Massengale who have preceded him in death. In addition, he was preceded by his wife, Edith Blanche Davis Massengale; by step son, Jerry Davis; step daughter, Wilma Smith; and by five brothers, Frank, James, Charles, Earl, and Raymond Massengale. He was born November 22, 1925 in Coalfield. He was a lifelong resident of Coalfield. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, serving his country in Germany in the latter part of the war. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Local Labor Union #818 of Knoxville. Survivors: step sons, Harold Davis and wife, Gloria of Oakdale, Jackie Davis and wife, Alice of Harriman; step grandchildren, Melissa Leach, Cindy Stair, Wayne Davis, Susie Armes, Jason Davis, George Ed Smith, Debra Kay Stout, Vickie Monk, John Smith, Wendell Smith, Jr.; brothers, Rubert "Rube" Massengale of Coalfield, Ed Massengale of Coalfield; step son in law, Wendell Smith of Harriman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 28, 2003 at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Massengale, Rev. Luther Massengale, and Rev. Russell Massengale officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be held Monday, September 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Estes Cemetery of Coalfield.
