>From The Oak Ridger 21 Nov 2003 W. George Erwin, 62, of Kingston, Robert L. Dew, 87, Roy V. McKeethan, 92, of Oak Ridge, Wesley Adams, ========================================= W. George Erwin, 62, of Kingston, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. Born March 12, 1941, in Alexander City, Ala., he was the son of William L. and Eloise Erwin, both now deceased. Mr. Erwin was a member of Luminary United Methodist Church. Growing up in Oak Ridge, he is a 1959 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1964. Mr. Erwin served as an army infantry officer from 1964 to 1966. He retired to Tennessee in 1998 after 32 years in the plastic bottle industry. Mr. Erwin is survived by his wife, Julie; three children, Bill, Scott and Tracy; four grandchildren, George, Drew, "Bubba" and Madeline; his brother, Sherwood Max; and by his mother-in-law, Mary Lumpkin. The funeral will be 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in the chapel of Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston with the Rev. Bill Duncan officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Hazelwood Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Gilda's Club Chicago, 537 North Wells, Chicago, IL 60610, or the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN 37909. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Robert L. Dew, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003. Mr. Dew taught school for over 35 years and retired in the 1980s at Jefferson Junior High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphine "Dean" Dew. Mr. Dew is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Dew, of Nashville; and by his son, Robert H. Dew. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Kern Memorial United Methodist Church. The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, 451 E. Tennessee Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Marshall-Donnelly Combs Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements. Roy V. McKeethan, 92, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Sept. 25, 1911, in Kings Mountain, Ky., he was the son of Samuel and Lola Floyd McKeethan. Mr. McKeethan was employed by Western Electric Co. in Chicago before owing his own radio-electronic business in Kentucky. He also worked at the Waynesburg Lumber Co., as an appliance sales and serviceman and a bookkeeper. Before coming to Oak Ridge in 1943, he was an electronics instructor for the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Lexington, Ky. He originally went to work at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, and after the war he was transferred to Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an instrument technician, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. According to his family, Mr. McKeethan was an outstanding athlete in high school, playing baseball and basketball. He also played semi-professional baseball. His family said his love of sports continued throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and was very interested in and followed the Oak Ridge Wildcats closely. He was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel and was fondly known to his friends as "Mac." He was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill. His family said he was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and delighted in spending as much time as possible with them. His family said he also enjoyed working in his yard and garden at his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Sanders McKeethan, on Feb. 16, 1980, and by a granddaughter, Rebecca Wagner, in 1969. Mr. McKeethan is survived by his son, Sam McKeethan and wife, Mary Alma, of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Vicki Bueno and husband, Ivan, of Tampa, Fla., and Sandra Wagner and husband, David, of Evansville, Ind.; six grandchildren, Kelly McKeethan and wife, Beckie, of Chattanooga, Kevin McKeethan, a student at Maryville College, Beth Scherrer and husband, Steve, of Lafayette, Ind., and Sally Miles and husband, Drew, Jennifer Wagner and Krista Wagner, all of Evansville, Ind.; and by four great-grandchildren, Drew Miles of Evansville, Ind., Molly Scherrer of Lafayette, and Sarah McKeethan and Josh McKeethan, both of Chattanooga. His family said he will be remembered by many friends. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Sills officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the mortuary. Wesley Adams, infant twin son of Mark and Ginger Adams of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003.
