LaVern Davis Atchley, Crossville, formerly of Corryton, died Monday, October 27, 2003 at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. Mrs. Atchley was born and raised in LaFollette and was a member of the first graduating class of the University of Tennessee Nursing School in 1957. She retired from St. Mary's Medical Center and moved to Lake Tansi in 1995. Her life was spent caring for others, and no where was this more apparent than in the love and support she gave to her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and nana touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Mildred Clarke, 84, LaFollette, died Sunday, November 2, 2003 at St. Mary's Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a graduate and school nurse for several years at Practical Bible College, Binghamton, NY. In 1959 she became a missionary in the Cumberland Mountains in Tennessee under the American Missionary Fellowship. She taught Bible classes in the schools of Scott and Campbell County, helped organize Sunday Schools, taught Vacation Bible Schools, cooked, and worked at Camp Galilee during camping season for 30 years. Upon retirement from AMF she joined Cedar Hill Baptist Church where she taught "Walk in the Word" on Thursday mornings. She is survived by one sister, Elsie Smith, Liverpool, NY; sister-in-law, June Clarke, Port Ritchie, Fl, many nephews and nieces, and co-worker for 45 years, Betty Glover, LaFollette; several other relatives and friends. She was the former owner of White Grocery in Jellico. She was a member of Aikens First Baptist Church and Jellico First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school for 40 years. After moving to Aiken, the class was renamed in her honor. She was also a former member of the Jellico Garden Club. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Robert Siler White and two grandchildren, Margaret A. Burney and Mark A Burney. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret White Burney, Aiken, S. She was a homemaker, housewife, best friend and companion to her husband of 64 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Briceville where she was an active member until her illness.
