Neal, 72, of Oliver Springs, Arnold Wilbur Phipps, 56, of Oliver Springs, Betty Chandler Williams, of Lynchburg, Va., and formerly of Oak Ridge, ========================================= Kathy Sue Thomas Kotewa, 44, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at her home. The adopted daughter of John and Mary Thomas of Oak Ridge, she was born Jan. 28, 1959, in Oak Ridge, to Blanche and Lee Otis Loyd. Her parents died when she was a child. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Danielle Woods, and her son-in-law, Chris Woods. She was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Kotewa is survived by her daughter, Carisa Woods; and two sons, Josh Condra and Kyle Duncan, all of Oak Ridge; and two grandsons, Daniel and David Woods. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters, Pam Lowery and Sammy Loyd, both of Dalton, Ga., Margie Hall of Florida, and Troy Boyd and Roy Boyd. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Herbert Lee officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Howard Juan Rash Sr., 85, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born Jan. 6, 1918, in Ivanhoe, Va., he was the son of David Allen Rash and Sallie Angela Walke Rash. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He came to Oak Ridge in 1945. Mr. Rash retired in 1983 from K-25, where he was a chemical operator. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 235 in Ivanhoe. According to his family, he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and he enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard Juan Rash Jr., who died Jan. 4, 2001. Mr. Rash is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth Wright Rash; his daughter, Barbara Fowler and her husband, Joe, of Oak Ridge; his sister, Pauline Hurd, of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Jeff Fowler and his wife, Trista, of Palm Beach, Fla., Jodi Henderson and her husband, Danny, of Hampton, Ga.; and Jacquelyn Fowler and Clint Rash and his wife, Teri, all of Oak Ridge; and by nine great-grandchildren, Brooklin, Tucker, Dawson, and Holton Fowler, Danielle and Billy Henderson and Eric, Jared and Bradley Rash. A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Charles Mattson and the Rev. Aldana Allen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Weatherford Mortuary. Ernest M. Neal, 72, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge, following an illness. Born Feb. 4, 1931, in Rising Fawn, Ga., he was the son of Carl and Alice White Neal. He moved to Oak Ridge in 1944. Mr. Neal was a retired Y-12 Plant machinist supervisor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Neal. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ellen Wilder Neal; three sons, Gary Neal and his wife, Janice, and Steve Neal, all of Oliver Springs, and Scott Neal of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Karen Neal of Oliver Springs; seven grandchildren, Stacey Floyd, Sonya Morgan, McKinley Neal, Steven Neal, David Neal, Stephanie Neal, and Tiffany Neal; and four great-grandchildren, Logan Wright, Emmett Neal, Katlyn Neal and Zachary Neal. He is also survived by a brother, Marvin Neal and his wife, Patricia, of Clinton; three sisters, Betty Patterson and her husband, Meredith, of Oak Ridge, Evelyn Hensley and her husband, Wilburn, of Oliver Springs, and Novella Eakes and her husband, Jim, of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Bill Dawson officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Arnold Wilbur Phipps, 56, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at his home. Mr. Phipps was a member of United Church of Compassion in Oliver Springs. He was a postal supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service and according to his family, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Phipps is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Phipps; his daughter, Barbara Jeffreys of Mount Hope, Ala.; his son, Arnold Phipps Jr., of Charlotte, N.C.; and his parents, William and Hazel Phipps of Crumpler, N.C. He is also survived by two brothers, William Phipps of Powie, Md., and Paul Wesley Phipps of Crumpler; his sister, Retta Phipps of Grassy Creek, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Tabitha, Mack and Alex. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in the chapel of Oliver Springs Mortuary with the Rev. Carol J. Frank and the Rev. Auzzie B. Freeman officiating. A graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Betty Chandler Williams, of Lynchburg, Va., and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Lynchburg. Mrs. Williams was the daughter of Zahlia Culp and Robert Chandler, both now deceased. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Vance Price Williams. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Queens College in Charlotte, N.C., and her master's degree from Columbia University in New York. She served with the U.S. Navy before working at Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center in New York. She did graduate study at Randolph-Macon Women's College, the University of Tennessee and the University of Virginia. Mrs. Williams moved with her husband in 1955 to Lynchburg. After her husband's death in 1965, she taught at Randolph-Macon Women's College, Seven Hills School, Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and Lynchburg College. She moved to Westminster-Canterbury in 2001, where she was active in the Resident Council and various other committees. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and active in many community events. Mrs. Williams is survived by three children, David V.P. Williams III of Des Moines, Iowa, Deborah Williams Linhart of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Elizabeth Williams Wallisch of Amherst, Neb.; and a sister and two brothers, Polly Chandler Tillman of Newport, N.C., Robert L. Chandler of Terrell, N.C., and John M. Chandler of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, David V.P. Williams IV, E. Leigh Linhart, Molly L. Linhart, Becki L. Linhart, Chandler E. Wallisch, Jamie N. Wallisch and Will O. Linhart IV. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph Carson officiating. A private burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
