JAMES WILLIAM - 73 CAGLE, CHARLES D. - age 83, PHIPPS, ARNOLD WILBUR - age 56, ========================================= AYTES, BETTY JO - age 68, passed away in the privacy of her own home in Wartburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leota Morgan Collins and Jerry Christopher Collins; sisters, Linda Hannah, Margaret Dean Watson; brother, Mark Anthony Collins. She is survived by her children, Sheila and husband, Larry Wilson, Loretta and husband, Tom White, Phil Aytes, Angela Childs, Tim and wife, Carol Aytes; grandchildren, Felicia and Brittany White, Sherry Aytes Donahue, Jordan Childs, Alexandria and Reagan Aytes, Morgan and Wendy Wilson; three great-grandchildren, Oasis Wilson, Larry James Garrett, and Shelby Kay Wilson; sister, Katie Laughter; brothers, David Collins, Doug Powers; a host of friends, and other special family members. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 16, 2003 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Annadale Baptist Church with Brother Junior Nance officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. BENTLEY, JAMES E., SR. - of Knoxville, died 11:01 p.m. October 13, 2003 at Brakebill Nursing Home. A graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School. Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired electrician with Union Carbide. Retired member of I.B.E.W. local union 760 Knoxville, Tennessee. Past Grand Knight and State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus. One of the founding members of Knoxville Columbus Home. A member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Preceded in death by wife, Marie Bryson Bentley; parents, Ed and Nell Bentley; brother, Thomas Joseph Bentley, Sr. Survivors: daughter and son-in- law, Deborah and Robert Gurganus of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, James E. Bentley Jr. and wife Judy of Loudon, Michael A Bentley and wife Carol of Knoxville, Robert B. Bentley and wife Joyce of Acme Pennsylvania; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ellen Sassi and Frances Cloud both of Knoxville; brother, John Bentley of Powell. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Father Xavier Mankel officiating. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery. An Honor Guard will be provided by Knoxville Council of Knights of Columbus. JAMES WILLIAM - 73 of Madisonville, Ky., died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2003 in the Regional Medical Center. Born January 7, 1930 in East Tenn., he was the son of the late William Wayne Byrd and Amy Jeralds Byrd. He was also preceded in death by one son, James William Byrd, II and three brothers, Jay Byrd, Richard Wayne Byrd and Robert "Bud" Byrd. Mr. Byrd retired after 36 1/2 years with Bell South and was a US Navy Korean War veteran, having served from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of the Grapevine Baptist Church and a member and past Master of the Earlington E.W. Turner Masonic Lodge #548. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hudson Byrd of Madisonville; one daughter, Vicki Renn of Madisonville; one son, Rick Byrd of Madisonville; three sisters, Marlene McNabb of Arlington, TX, Amy Lee Schubert of Lenoir City, Tenn. and Joyce Donahue of Lenoir City; one brother, Ronnie Byrd of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jamie Byrd, Amy Byrd, Mandi Mitchell, Sarah Renn and Karah Renn. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2003 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Hendricks and Rev. H. Ralph Gill officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Madisonville, Ky. Pallbearers will be Jim McFarland, David Morrow, George Siria and Roger Talley. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday by the E.W. Mr. Cagle was a Nuclear Physicist for ORNL and was retired after 43 years of service. He was an avid gardener. Survived by wife of 59 years, Margaret Plumlee Cagle; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Thomas and Mary Cagle; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Brad Hart, Debbie and Don Stanton, Margie and Ben Weatherford, Cathy Cagle and Becky Cagle; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; sister, Coleen Hart; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Cumberland View Cemetery in South Pittsburg, TN for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western PHIPPS, ARNOLD WILBUR - age 56, of Oliver Springs, passed away October 14, 2003 at his home. Mr. Phipps was a member of United Church of Compassion in Oliver Springs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Postal Supervisor for The United States Post Office. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Phipps of Oliver Springs; his parents, William and Hazel Phipps of Crumpler, North Carolina; one son, Arnold Phipps, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; one daughter, Barbara Jeffreys of Mount Hope, Alabama; two brothers, William Phipps of Powie, Maryland and Paul Wesley Phipps of Crumpler, North Carolina; one sister, Retta Phipps of Grassy Creek, North Carolina. Mr. Phipps is survived by three grandchildren, Tabitha, Mack and Alex. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Oliver Springs Mortuary. The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, in the chapel of Oliver Springs Mortuary with Rev. Carol J. Frank and Rev. Auzzie B. Freeman officiating. Interment will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.
