>From the Knoxville News Sentinel 24 Oct 2003 ARNWINE, RUBIN LINCOLN 'R.L.' - age 65 of Niota, GROOMS, BLANCHE WILSON- HANSARD, MABEL KIRK - age 90, TINCH, HELEN LOUISE - age 76, of Oak Ridge, WILLOUGHBY, CHARLES CLINTON - age 80 of LaFollette, ========================================= ARNWINE, RUBIN LINCOLN 'R.L.' - age 65 of Niota, Tennessee died Tuesday evening at his home October 21, 2003. He grew up in the Oak Grove community and attended Oak Grove School. He was retired from Martin-Marietta in Oak Ridge, Tenn. after 20 years of service as a firefighter. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, in Niota, Tenn. where he served as chairman of the trustee board, and many other areas of the church. He was a devoted and faithful member of Oak Grove Male Chorus. He was very active in the community and served as president of the volunteer fireman for the Union Grove fire department. He also served as a policeman for the Athens City police department. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Mae(Hurst) Arnwine. Brothers, Willie, Roy and Bobby Arnwine. Sisters, Jessie and Essie Arnwine and Elsie Moore. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Nellie Pauline Dethridge Arnwine. One daughter Priscilla(Brian) Melton. Two grandchildren, Keith and Shasta Melton all of Niota, Tenn. Five brothers, and sisters-in- law, Marshall(Dorothy) Arnwine of Athens, Tenn., George Arnwine of Gallatin, Tenn., Billy( Jessie) Arnwine of Niota, Tenn., Wendell(Margaret) Arnwine of Niota, Tenn., Ulys Arnwine of Niota, Tenn. Four sisters, and brothers-in-law, Cleo Rice of Elyria, Ohio, Alice(Shedrick) Moore of Gary, Ind., Rena Moore of Cleveland, Ohio, Ora Scruggs, of Niota, Tenn. Sisters-in-law, Eva (Eugene) Carney of Rockwood, Tenn., and Hattie Arnwine of Athens, Tenn. Two aunts, Clemmie McCowan of Niota, Tenn. and Rose Hurst of Buffalo, New York. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Funeral services will be Saturday October 25, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Hickman officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Visitation by friends will begin after 12:00 noon on Friday at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home - Athens, Tenn. GROOMS, BLANCHE WILSON- born March 12, 1912, was the child of Audley Rhea ("A.R.") Wilson and Edna Lewis Moore Wilson, at 407 Dawson Place, south Knoxville died Sunday evening, October 19, 2003 at the Little Creek Sanitarium at the age of 91. The family was well-known and active in the old Graystone Presbyterian Church. Blanche was a charter member and Ruling Elder at Parkway Presbyterian, Sang in choirs and was active in Women of the Church throughout her life. In retirement, she worked with FISH of Knox County and was a Red Cross volunteer at Parkwest Hospital. She attended old Knoxville High School, graduated from Young High School in 1930, attended Maryville College and Draughan's Business School, and graduated from U of Tennessee with B.A. in Education. Blanche was married to Gordon A. Grooms of Seaman, Ohio at Graystone Presbyterian Church, May 24, 1935. The couple met as students at Maryville College. Upon marriage, Blanche Grooms moved to southern Ohio. In 1943 the family moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn, where Mr. Grooms was employed by Eastman Kodak and later Union Carbide. For several intervening years, the family lived in Florida, Moore Haven and then Inverness, where Mr. Grooms was a high school principal and she was the school secretary. Blanche taught in Knox County schools - Galbreath '32-'35 and later at several others including Hardin Valley, Ball Camp, Ridgedale, Cedar Bluff and Karns and retired in 1973. The family purchased and operated a large farm in the HardinValley-Solway community in 1954 and remained there until Blanche moved to Shannondale's Retirement and Assisted Living facilities. In February, 2003, she moved to Little Creek Sanitarium on Northshore Drive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon A. Grooms, siblings ,Eugene M. Wilson, Theron D. Wilson, Marshall A. Wilson, Catherine Wilson Kennette, Willett R. Wilson, H. Clark Wilson, and Dr. Frank E. Wilson. Survivors: sister, Mary Wilson Clark of Maryville; children, Gaye Grooms Greer Honeycutt and husband Kenneth E. of Knoxville, Gary A. Grooms and wife Ann McGuire Grooms of Gainesville, Fla., Dennis P. Grooms and wife Linda East Grooms of Harriman, and Dale A. Grooms and wife Shari Harb Grooms of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jan Greer Pipkin, Lisa Greer Prater, Leslie Greer Knox, Greg A. Grooms, Kathryn Grooms, Barbara Grooms, Paula E. Grooms, and Ryan Grooms, deceased; great-grandchildren Jessica Pipkin, Patrick Wilson Pipkin, Tyler Knox, Kerrie Knox, Mark Prater, Rachel Prater, and Harrison Rinda Grooms. A Memorial Service to honor her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday October 25, 2003 at Parkway Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Charles Book, former pastor of the church, and Rev. Jody McKewen will officiate. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall after the service. The immediate family will have a private interment at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Hansard; parents, James E. and Rosa Lee Lewis Kirk; brothers, Edgar and Curtis Kirk; and sister, Georgia Kirk. She was the last surviving charter member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Anderson County. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Andersonville and was Past Worthy Matron. She was invited to attend the General Grand Chapter of OES of Milwaukee, Wis. in 1970 and sang in the Grand Choir. Survivors include, daughter and son in law, Marleen and Don Henderson of Greensboro, NC; son and daughter in law James R. and Nancy Hansard of Farragut; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Edna Foster and Alby Fortham. TINCH, HELEN LOUISE - age 76, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Born October 14, 1927 in Knox County, TN, she was the daughter of Samuel Layman Sparks and Bessie Lea McNutt Sparks. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westside Community Church of God in Solway. Preceded in death by her husband, Hobart Randalls Tinch, Sr., September 18, 2003 and four brothers, Frank, Junior, John and Fritz Sparks. Survived by: sons, Scott Allen Tinch of Oak Ridge and Rev. Randy Tinch and wife Sharon of Knoxville; brothers, Thomas Sparks and wife Katherine of New Port Richey, FL, I. A. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed farming. Charles will be sadly missed by family and friends He was a veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death by 1st wife, Hazel Hatmaker Willoughby; daughter, Linda Sue Willoughby; parents, William Canada and Florence Bowman Willoughby; brother, Louis G.
