She was a certified Civil War veteran from Scott County, TN * Scott Co, TN Lookups Added lookups for Scott Co, TN Federal Population Census records from 1850-1920 (excluding 1890) (courtesy of Betty Phillips) * Scott Co, TN Military Records Added link to Galvanized TARS: Confederate POWs who enlisted in the Union Navy Many Confederate prisoners held in Union camps could no longer tolerate the close confinement and filthy conditions, and decided to grab the proverbial 'dangling carrot,' and take the Oath of Allegiance. Some of these men were recruited into the service of the Union. Galvanized Yankees was the term used to denote former Confederate prisoners of war who enlisted in the Union Army. Galvanized Tars is the term used for those Confederate prisoners who took the Oath and joined the Union Navy and Marine Corps.

    3. Tim, You are an absolute love! As busy as you are you still find time to put so much into the web site. I am truly impressed! I don't know if Kathy Alvey is in this list, my entire family thanks her. We have always wondered about the child in the picture with Taylor and Nancy West. It is a great piece of the puzzle.
