Ms. Tarr, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, earned her bachelor of science degree at the University of Maine in 1951, and began her career with United Aircraft Corporation in East Hartford, Conn., that same year. In 1958, she came to Oak Ridge. She continued her career at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she was for many years a technical editor. She was editorial secretary of the Health Physics Journal there from 1961 to 1974. She retired in January of 1989; however, she continued to contract with Martin Marietta Energy Systems and Midwest Technical until 1996. She enjoyed several hobbies including modeling of miniature furniture utilizing research of period design. She also enjoyed driving trips to vacation in New England and to visit her brother and sister and their families in Maine and Massachusetts. In recent years, she enjoyed working with a local nephew on a genealogy project that resulted in tracing her family to 17th century England. Attending scholastic presentations and sporting events of her grandnieces and nephews was a favorite activity. Survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Douglas B. Janney, Sr. of Oak Ridge and Dr. and Mrs. J. Robert Smyth of Amherst, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Philip Tarr of Framingham, Mass.; three dear friends, Carole Row and Dot Keller of Oak Ridge and Raymond Millemann of Harriman. Her family said she was a favorite aunt of 15 nieces and nephews, who all derived enjoyment and admiration from her wit, humor and independence. Her local niece and nephews were Lisa Mott of Clinton, Pete Janney of Knoxville and Douglas Janney, Jr. of Oak Ridge. Her family gratefully remembers her as a devoted and care-giving companion to her mother, Mrs. Omar F. Tarr, who lived in Oak Ridge from 1971 until her death in 1991 at age 99. In recent years, she had a particularly close and loving relationship with her niece, Mrs. Lisa Mott who, throughout her illness, remained by her side providing comfort and assistance. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with Pastor Boyd Carter officiating. Following cremation, internment will be at the Memorial Garden of the United Church, Chapel on the Hill, where she was a longtime member. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Keystone Elder Day Care, at the First United Methodist Church, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Herbert Cleo Wilson, 85, of Oliver Springs, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born Aug. 17, 1917, in the Wheat community of Roane County, the son of the Rev. Henry Clay Wilson and Mamie Ann Freels Wilson. He was a U.S. Army staff sergeant during World War II. He received two Bronze Service Stars. He was retired from Union-Carbide and was employed at the K-25 plant in the maintenance department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Myrtle Hill Wilson. Survivors include his wife, Beulah Wilson; step children, Freddie Crowe of Harriman and Randall Wilson and his wife, Betty, of Oak Park, Ga.; step grandchildren, Tammy Brumer, Randy Wilson and Sherry Wilson; a brother, Otis Leon Wilson and wife, Eloise of Kingston; two sisters, Ila Mae Holloway of Oliver Springs and Bonnie Logan and her husband, Jack of Cherokee, Ala. and special friends of the New Mountain Baptist Church family. The funeral was Sunday, April 13, 2003, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. A graveside service was to be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Benny "Bud" Rogers, 73, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was the son of Bernard and Addie Baker Rogers of Bradner, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 58 in LaFollette. Survivors include his wife, Susan Rogers of Oak Ridge; three sons, Rodney Rogers, Buddy Dean Rogers and Randy Rogers, all of Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews in Ohio. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gary Wells and the staff of the Dialysis Clinic and to the nurses of the Acute Care Unit. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. June Stooksbury, 77, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Norris, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born May 7, 1925, in Harlan, Ky. She retired from the State of Tennessee as a tax enforcer. She was a member of East Tennessee Ballroom Dance Association and was a ballroom dance instructor for many years. She attended Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie F. Stooksbury; her parents, Frank and Nancy Mullins Bacon and a brother, Ira F. Bacon. Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Lain, Betsy Speed and her husband, William, and Amy Brummett, all of Oak Ridge, and Suzanne Bibb and her husband, Bob, of Knoxville; Seven grandchildren, John Lain, Sam Lain, Wesley Speed, Priscilla Speed, Allyn Boatwright, Brian Bibb, Hannah Brummett; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Speed, Julia Lain and Madison Speed; a sister, Jean Gibson and her husband, Jack, of Maryville; a special sister-in-law, Ruth Human of Norris and several nieces and nephews. Robert Dion Massengale, 33, of Clinton, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at his residence. He was born Oct. 18, 1969, in Anderson County. He was a member of Big Valley Open Door Assembly of God in Andersonville. He had worked as a laborer for Carter Construction Company. Survivors include his mother, Wanda Trowbridge Massengale and her special friend, Bill Province of Clinton; his father, Leon Massengale of Clinton; a special aunt and uncle, Betty and Dennis Byrd of Clinton; aunts and uncles, James and Pat Trowbridge of Clinton, Shirley and Johnny Walker of Norris, Betty and Russ Bolton of Titusville, Fla., Hazel and Gene Smothers of Pensacola, Fla., Nancy and Al Frisenda of Orlando, Fla., Edna and Bill Lewallen of Lake City and several cousins and friends. She was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Fentress County, the daughter of Abraham and Margaret Chambers Roysden. She was a lifelong member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church and a resident of Briceville. Her family said she loved singing gospel songs and growing flowers. The family said she was a special nanny to Mary Patterson and Terry Patterson of Kingston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters; her husband, Albert Glee Burris and grandsons, Jimmy Burris of Ohio and Kenny Hayes of Briceville. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Jean Burris of Clinton, Arvil L. and Ruth Burris of Ohio, Albert G. Jr. and wife Vickie Burris of Lake City and John E. and Sandy Burris of Missouri; two daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn and Bill Hayes and Lillie Mae Roldan, all of Briceville; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a special granddaughter, Tammy Williams. The funeral will be 8 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in the chapel of Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Archie Seiber officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Burris Cemetery on Seiber Mountain in Briceville. Pallbearers will be the grandsons of Mrs. Burris. James Edward "Ed" Aslinger, 65, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
