>From The Oak Ridger 3 Apr 2003 Walter Stuart Rule Jr., 79, of Oak Ridge, Mary Rene Scarbrough Watson, 71, of Clinton, Ester Ethel Davidson, 83, of Oak Ridge, ===================================== Walter Stuart Rule Jr., 79, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Born May 29, 1923, in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of the Rev. Walter Stuart Rule Sr. and Anne Marinda Tarwater Rule. He served with the U.S. Army's 423rd Infantry Regiment during World War II. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany from December 1944 until May 1945. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration/personnel management in 1948 from the University of Tennessee. Mr. Rule retired in 1985 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems after 37 years of service. He worked as a purchasing agent at the K-25 site. He had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1945, and served as a deacon, church treasurer and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the UT Century Club. He was an avid UT fan and loved sports in general, particularly bowling and golf. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Robertson Judy Rule, who died in August 1980, and by two sisters, Dr. Evelyn T. Rule and Mary Sue Rule. Mr. Rule is survived by his wife of 21 years, Virginia Boyt Fallin Rule; his son, David Stuart Rule and his wife, Karen Soard Rule, of Maryville; his daughter, Anne Judy Rule of Houston, Texas; and a stepdaughter, Sandra Fallin Glover and her husband, the Rev. David Glover, of New Market. He is also survived by his brother, James Robert Rule and his wife, Virginia, of Knoxville; and by four grandchildren, April Glover Martin and her husband, Lyonel, of Haleyville, Ala., and Joshua Stuart Rule, Daniel Edward Rule and Judy Michelle Rule, all of Maryville. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at First Baptist Church with Rev. David Glover officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard will conduct military rites. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Music Fund of First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements Mary Rene Scarbrough Watson, 71, of Clinton, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the home of her sister. She was a longtime member of Riverview Baptist Church. She was employed by Emory Valley Center in Oak Ridge for 17 years and was the loving caregiver for Missy and Lee, her family said. Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Roy and Julie Long Scarbrough. Mrs. Watson is survived by her husband, I. M. Watson; two daughters and their husbands, Ronda and Royal Bruckno of Charlotte, N.C., and Ziena and Randy Roach of Clinton; three sons, Gary Watson, Alan Watson, and Ricky Watson his wife, Teresa, all of Clinton; and an adopted son, Hailie Bokure and his wife, Mebrat, of Ethiopia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Whatley, Candice Place, Chris Roach, Iran Watson, Garon Watson, Jason Watson, Mark Watson, Devin Watson, William Roberts, Lori Roberts, April Watson and Adam Watson; adopted granddaughters, Mary Bokure and Martha Bokure; two sisters and their husbands, Georgia and Durrell Smith of Claxton and Ann and Paul Penine of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, R.E. and Joreita Scarbrough of Greenback and Carl and Lenda Scarbrough of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Georgia Watson; and by six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Sharon Boudreany was considered her best friend. The funeral was Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Tony McAfee officiating. A graveside service was to be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Riverview Cemetery. Ester Ethel Davidson, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Windwood Health and Rehab Center in Clinton. The daughter of Henry and Ima Bowman Coleman, she was born March 29, 1920, in Butler County, Ala. She had been a resident of Oak Ridge for more than 50 years and had worked as a cook and in the housekeeping department at the Alexander Inn until her retirement. She was a Baptist. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Davidson Sr., who died in 1997. Mrs. Davidson is survived by five sons, Joseph Davidson and Elijah Davidson, both of Oak Ridge, John Davidson and Roger Davidson, both of Saint Paul, Minn., and William Davidson and his wife, Shirley, of Knoxville; and five daughters, Pearlie Staples and her husband, Elvin, Ethel Sykes and her husband, Orin, and Sally Davidson, all of Oak Ridge, Rosie Gibson of Saint Paul, and Geneva Hill and her husband, Lucius, of Phoenix, Ariz. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph Coleman and his wife, Annie Belle, of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Jennie Mae Higginbotham and Tessie Armstrong, both of Pensacola, Fla.; and by 47 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several other relatives. She considered Ruth Graham, Lillian Pettus, Judy Jones, Ketty Carpenter and Jessie Mae Hardoway as special friends. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at True Light Missionary Baptist Church in Solway. The Rev. Darius Waters, the Rev. Hardil Thomas and the Rev. Dr. Harold Middlebrook will officiate. Church senior choir members Maggie Drummonds, Jack Friendly and Dolores Cole, will sing. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. James Davidson, Alphonso Davidson, Anthony Davidson, Donnie Staples, Otto Sykes, Mike Aygemon, Richard Bates, Roy L. Bates and Richard Mitchell will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
